Help! My daughter got into both kindergardens. Which one will you choose? She got into the Putonghua/English medium for Victoria and SKH. Really frustrated which school to choose... Can you all give me some comments on both schools?

1. Are parents old girl/old boy of any famous primary school?

Dad is not fm any famous primary school in hk. But I used to go to St. Paul's Co-ed... however, I don't think my daughter could get in anyways...we all know the competitions... but of course will be my priority

2. School location and your home distance?

they are both very close to my home, no worry about this

3. Personality of your child?

a very cheerful, quite a clever one who follows instructions very well and pretty linguistics...but single daughter

4. Your expectation of a kinder?

still very unsure about int'l or local ones, but prefer her to be able to speak fluent eng and putonghua, no 'chinguish'

help me!!! what would her path be if we choose int'l /local??? still very unsure...

many thanks!

thanks for your reply.
I have at 1st told myself that I would definitely put my duaghter to an int'l school. But then, i have given up a bit as i wanted her to know Chinese characters that's why I put her to Victoria instead of Int'l kindergartens. And now, as she gets into SKH which is a very good traditional local kindergarten, I don't really want to give up. But I tell myself that this should not be the concern. No one knows that future. But what type of girl should be going to an int'l one, and what type of girl should go to local school? pls. kindly advise.
Thanks!

Hope it's not too late to reply to you on this topic. My girl who is in Victoria K1 now. I have gone thru' the same situations like you as she got in for both Vict & SKH too. But eventually I have decided to stay in Vict for her K1 as I believe she could build up better her language skills. The other friend of mine has changed her kid to SKH from Vict in K1. But I heard she complaint that there is not much English lessons in SKH.... so it really depend what you want in returns. hope this helps <..>

I believe academically both are on par, but my preference would be SKH because it has a christian background and tends to provide better moral education.  As for Victoria, I've joined its Play Group, seems a bit commercial to me (just my personal feeling).

Agree that if you're aiming at international primary schools, Victoria might be more suitable; but if you are aiming for traditional ones, my bet would be SKH might give your daughter a better edge.

Thank you all for your comments. Does this mean if i choose Victoria, there is less chance that she can get into good local schools?

I am afraid you can't treat VSA as a back-up plan these days.
Last year, Victoria kindergarten kids were told that they have to forfeit applying to other schools if they want to be considered for VSA.
If they apply to other schools, then they wil have to apply to VSA just like any other outsiders and will not be given any priority.

Victoria - you can refer to the primary allocation which is available on their website.
Another advantage for Victoria is that you always have VSA to fall back on.  I think it is a good school too ...

Still it seems a rather expensive back-up plan!
If you really want to go to VSA, then of course this is not a problem.
But if you treat it as a back-up, then you should be aware that most of the top schools will not have announced their results before mid-October.
In fact, most will not have even finished all the interviews by that time!
So you will have to pay the 2 months school fees (?>$15000) in order to hold onto the VSA place & wait for the other schools.
If you do get into a top school, you will then have to 'happily' wave goodbye to the 2 months school fees.

Thanks Charlotte_mom... looks a bit scary to stay at Victoria if they don't accpet their own students, plus having to forfeit to apply other schools is nonsense. Is there any way that we can both apply VSA and local schools? Seems like....hmmm....SKH is better then, am i right?
