我仔仔依家讀緊,我覺得整個課程設計相當好,而且一班有一外籍老師,兩個本地老師,同一個嬸嬸,比例約1:8,,我小朋友係由ITLP繼續上2 years programme,有separation,慢慢給予小朋友熟習,老師好了解每個小朋友特質,個性,老師好有愛心(唔係扮出黎),你feel到老師同學校係好care你既小朋友,雖然,學費都係貴d,不過我個人覺得值得..

My son is 18 months old and was accepted by Yew Chung last month for PM class. Although the school fee is high, 5550 for half day, I found the theory of treating each child according to their character will be suitable for my child as he already behaves as a trouble 2, i.e. has his own opinion in choosing clothes, food etc. I think you can still apply now for PM class but you have to attend an introductory meeting before application. Once they give you an interview, you are accepted. Please check the schedule accordingly:

$5,550 is only the school fee of half day class. How about the fees for miscellaneous items and school uniform?
I heard from a mom that she needs to spend about $8,000 per month (including $5,550) coz her child (K1) learns violin at school, but I don't know if it is a MUST or not.

Woo , $8000 is too much for N1. I heard from a mum that funful is around $4800 + Mis charges so I think it will be around $5500 for all fees.

We go for interview tomorrow. Most likely PM class also.
He is 18M also & become naughty recently. I can't imagine that a 18-yr old baby know how to choose clothes /foods.

how long did you wait for the vacancy? i.e. how long was the period between you submitted your application and your son got accepted?
I have just applied for my 18-month-old daughter and will go to the introductory meeting next Thur. so do you think she can get a place by Sept this year?

I haven't attend any introductory meeting. What is the purpose for this meeting.
I submitted form in Oct last year. I called again 2 week ago. (due to no response from the school).
YC accepted my son (PM) class. He will go to school in Oct when he is 2 -year-old.
As my bk mom told, once they meet you and told to prepare check. They will give you a place.
2 programme is good and I think my son will enjoy his life there…..
I suggest you to call them.

The school invited us to attend the introductory meeting after i submitted the application. the introductory meeting was just an introduction of the school's vision and teaching methodology. my husband went there this thur but he didn't request for an interview on that day! So i think i need to call them up as soon as possible! thanks

YC accpeted my son for PM class also. I know YC will not teach phonics, but I think spoken English level is good coz children have much chance to speak.
I wonder if I should take this school coz the school fee is expensive. If I take other schools which school fee is cheaper, I can enrol more interest classes for my son such as phonics, piano, ....etc. What do you think?

School fee is $5,550 per month actually no more mis. charges. You should pay it monthly and totally 12 installment. If you want to travel by school bus. For me, from sai kung to school (5days) nearly 1,200 per month. As the school bus travelling agent ran by YC, it maintain a high standard of service. "Safety" is the most important thing of my concerns. Both driver and 跟車姐姐 are in good manner and with heart. I am so surprised even the clercial staff also familar with every kids. Sometimes, when I make a phone call to them and tell them my son was sick. She really identify my baby and shows her concern. This school likes a warm family. I have no doubt for me to let my son studies in this school as I can see his happiness,improvement and good hygient enviroment.

once i saw a YC school bus on the road and i was impressed by the manner of the driver -- he drove very slowly. you know, safety is the biggest concern for parents. I saw too many dangerous school bus drivers when I was driving to work every morning

I'm still struggling with 2yr programme and K1. As I live in Tai Po, such far far away...I just worry it made me boy too tired for 2 yr programme....but seems the school is really good....any suggestion...?

當日見到MISS好友善有耐性，並不是因為有外人在才裝出來，個個小朋友都好聽老師話，（當日見到普通話老師及外籍老師，基本上見散所有老師及姐姐），氣氛很好，有在家的感覺！空氣清新，環境乾淨。
我都好放心俾個仔讀，交通問題如其他媽媽話，他們基本上都好nice，有責任心， 交得俾學校都可以放心！

My son is currently studying the 2's program at YC and I would recommend this school to anyone. The staff are very caring and my son loves going to school. If I were to choose between Victoria and YC I would go for YC without hesitation. When I went for interview at Victoria, all the teachers were just standing there talking to each other and didn't even pay attention to my child, but when I went to the interview at YC, classes were running on the day and I could observe how the teachers interact with children, there was one teacher who held one child for over an hour trying to calm him down while we were waiting for the interview, I was deeply impressed by the teachers at YC.
Anyway, there is only 1 cantonese teacher, 1 native English teacher and 1 yi yi at the class, so both Cantonese and English have equal weighting.

Hi, I am YC mama,
my son is studing in 2-years programme now. Yes, all students in the class are 2 years or older. They will recommend you to study in ITLP(playgroup) first and reserve a seat of 2-year class for you. Once your baby is 2 years old then can transfer to such class (插班). It means 8月(ITLP) then 10月(2-year class).

Karie, they will definately give you a place........ no preperation is necessary..... the principal will just ask you some questions.......... just casual talk...... just relax......... you can see how the kids enjoy themselves while in class too.......

The principal share the philosophy of Yew Chung and just ask some common question to know more about the life of my son.(in Cantonese)
She asked who take care baby.This was quite an informal interview.
After the interview, one of their staff registered for my son and received the cheque. - that's mean they accepted my son.

You might think YC being an international school, everyone would speak in English, but the principle is quite opposed to speaking English with you child unless your mother tongue is English. She thinks it delays your child's speech development and hence self-esteem and confidence when learning.......

跟住有個英文老師就同佢哋講唔可以咁, 跟住個老師又同個中文老師講多次, 個中文老師又教佢哋唔可以咁, 跟住佢哋就慢駛跟住我個仔, 又話我知佢哋叫咩名, 我又同佢哋傾咗陣偈
本來on the way去學校時我個仔開始眼瞓, 我都好驚佢去到學校會扭計, 但去到時, 佢好快就warm up咗, 心情仲好好, 見人就打招呼, 我先舒一口氣
整體感覺好好, 最重要係, 我睇到我個仔鍾意呢間學校

I bought two sets..... and I have some additional ones passed over from my relative..... so got quite a lot........
since my kid will be attending other school next year, do you want mine? they are in excellent condition........
you can choose to wear the T-shirt and shorts alone (summer time) or you can wear your own clothes with the apron on top......... so I didn't buy any winter uniform, just wear our own clothes and put the apron on top..... to save $$

Karie, good question........ our concern is still $$$..... especially when I've just given birth to our second son........ so $$$ is critical......... my elder son will attend St. Cat pm class........ if we can manage financially I would really want him to continue in YC..... but let's see......
For sure, you can just buy the apron.... this way you can use it for the entire year....... don't buy lar..... I'll pass you mine........

yesterday when i told the headmistress i'm afraid my son may not be able to go toilet on his own by the time he goes to school, ms kam said their 嬸嬸 will help him but it's better to prepare some more sets of school uniform. i was thinking how many sets to buy...

Do you mean your bb is going to attend the ITLP program or the 2-year-old program? If ITLP (for babies) I don't think you need to wear uniform, but for 2-year-old program (pre-nursary) then you need to wear uniform.

I've applied for 2010 Two-Year-Olds Program for my bb too. Of course letting my bb to have a happy first year school life is what I concern. However, paying such high school fee for studying in int'l school, I can't help expecting my bb can learn and develop interest in English in return. I've attended YC's seminar and understand the Prinicipal's theory. Since my family used to speak Cantonese to bb, should I better don't put any expectation in bb's English learning progress... if I really choose YC? How about your child's situation?

Yes, only 2-year-old programme student required to buy uniform. Don't worry, they will send notice to you and let you choose the size and item.

we speak to our son in English and Cantonese... but my son's English happens to be much better than his Cantonese........ from school he is exposed to both Cantonese and English with both languages having equal weighting......... so your child will have exposure to both languages.......... there will be 1.5 hours of Cantonese led by a Cantonese teacher and then another 1.5 hour in English led by a NET........ my son did not pay attention at all when it comes to the Cantonese session, but as the school year progresses, he showed more interest in the Cantonese session too.........YC is unlike other int'l school where English is the dominant language...... in YC both Cantonese and English are just as important..... at least that's true in the 2-year-old program.

另外, 我家住tko, 搭校車時間會唔會太長呢? 定係自己帶返學好啲呢?

I asked my son's paediatrician to sign not the one from school.
I live near Lai King and we take the school bus from YC, the school starts at 8:45am and the school bus comes at 8:05am to collect my son. It really depends on you, if you ask someone to take your child to school, then where does that person go during school time? seems like a waste of time.

Dear all YC mama,
My son is going to attend am class starting this Oct.
Think @ Mei Foo accepted my son pm class as well. My husband like YC. But my concern is YC is a bit far away from home as I live in Mei Foo. I am in a dilemma now.

I think traffic shouldn't be a problem, if his grandfather is happy to drive him on the school days. I believe he would be free and glad to do so, as he would be retired since the coming july. :loveliness:

I agree that this should be a nice arrangement, as neither one of you needs to stay idle for few hours there.
We are also planning to ask our maid to send my boy to school, and grandfather to take him back.

Nice to meet you...... it cost $1000..... a bit pricey, but the school bus from YC is safe and nanny there is very nice.

Thank you for your sharing of the life at YC.
I met the principal (Mrs McGrawth) yesterday & decided to send my son to the 2yr-olds prog. I'd like to know is it safe for a 2 yrs old child to take school bus himself? Is there any seatbelt for each student? How much if the route is from Olympian City II to YC?

You can be rest assured that the YC school bus is safe, it's the best school bus I've seen, it's very new and the seat belt goes on both side of the shoulders so it's very safe..... though it's a bit expensive...... however, not sure about the cost for you....... from Lai King to school costs me $1,000 per month.

thx. so I guess the monthly fee is probably less than $1,000. It's good coz the travelling cost of an adult (minibus+KCR, 4 times) is about $600.
4 times coz I think it's difficult for me to stay at Kln Tong for 3 hours (but nothing to do) until my son finished his class.

I was called this morning about the introductory meeting on this thur. and they said they will send me an email first and i have to send back their reply slip. ，有困難嗎？you can choose their local stream from K1 onwards to get into local primary schools, my relative's children all got into quite renowned local primary schools.

4. 聽說耀中太自由了，所以難以與本地小學銜接，是嗎？I really don't think this is a problem, in fact, my relatives' children has advantage over the other children in the same primary school in terms of their English because they had build a good foundation during their study in YC's kindergarten.

如果做"細b", 相信去到任何一所學校也可能有跟不上的情況. 我覺得你可以試試孩子能否適應學校生活, 給他機會接觸不同的人. 如果真的有困難便再作打算吧!

Does that mean my son is already accepted? They asked me to prepare a cheque, does anyone know how much do I need to pay for deposit? Do I have to make a decision right away???

you bring a blank cheque for registration and they will tell you the amount, they will accept you to p.m. class (all am classes are full).

hi jjbaby0307, i guess most parents were impressed by the educational philosophy explained by the principals at the meeting, however i highly doubt it can be well delivered thru the half day twos programme. as u may recall the timetable for 2s, there is actually no more than 2.5 hours when the children are sitting in the classroom for learning activities. for cantonese speaking family, the 2 class teachers will be both chinese and the NET will join for 1.5 hour every day. the kids are mainly practising cantonese in school. that s not my concern and i do agree with the idea of using mother tongue in early education. what worries me is the condition of the school facilities and the small size of the premises.
imho, choosing yc would be fine provided u have considered all factors mentioned above and dont regard it as an international kinder like kingston or anfield.

For me, I'm not too concerned about the number of English hours or other academic standards at this moment. After all, they are just 2 yr old kids, and going to school should be fun. What I really want to make sure is that the teachers are caring and love children. I would be happy enough if I see my son loves going to school each day.
But of course, I hope the school is good enough for my son to continue studying there in the next few years. It's nice to hear the different views here.
