幾年前我呢舊本地薑對ISo既感覺好似遙不可及；但幾年來本地d私立幼稚園(包括一d”假國際”)越黎越貴，學費又同ESF差唔遠…膽粗粗又試下…

我"侯"住IS好耐架啦, 由我做女到結婚生BB, 一直都係打算比小朋友讀IS, 不過當然係應付到先讀啦, 最弊宜家唔知有冇得讀呢, 唉.....

Looks like more foreigners (Cat 1) go to compete in ESF rather than more expensive school, like German-Swiss (those need debenture too), may be because of poor economic situation too.....

Expats love to spend company allowance on their housing but not their own money for education. ESF is the obvious choice...

My last option (the worst scenario) is going back to local stream...
Other IS are too expensive or uncertain quality...

Economy is another factor. It is a >10 years project. You may meet other(s) Financial Tsunami in the coming years...we need to be brave...

U know, DC competition is very keen....90 out of >250 applicants this years....2/3 interview place were reserved for Cat 1.....

好想個人精神d起勁d, 不過一見到宜家周圍o既環境, 成個人都灰晒, 大人捱唔緊要呀, 真係好怕影響到小朋友, 因為真係對local教育冇晒信心, 如果因為咁而影響到佢地, 我諗我有排心up......

咁我又唔會放棄, 學你話濟唔得先再算, 堅持到底, 為咗呢條路放棄咗好多其他野架啦, 不過唔會後悔, 因為係自己選擇

Yup!漁翁撒網is a good way!
DC competition will be getting keen(already very keen now) when the school is growing to its full capacity in 3-4years…
RC seems to be less competitive(relatively) now but not sure after 3 years…

looks like you don't have any geographic concern on the school locations (since KCIS & FIS is in HK while RC is in Shatin).

But for me, if my kid (only less than 5 by Y1) need to travel more than 1 hour to the school daily by school bus (from TKO to RC in MOS takes more than 1 hour by school bus so total travel time in worst case is 3 hours per day) then I dobut about sending my kid to RC. But sometimes realistically we don't have too many choices........

另外, 英文外籍導師是長時間在班或是班主任嗎??還是部份時間??

Any kids have interview in ESF Y1 this week? Can you share any expereince after interview?

My daughter got an interview with one of the oldest ESF for year 1. The teacher, principal and the staff all said that she will be admitted for 2009. However, the acceptance letter will not be sent out until after the Chinese new year. In my opinion, ESF teachers are more professional rather than the general ESL teachers than the other IS get. ESF recruits directly from the UK. Most teachers are long term career educator there.

Added: the school only takes in about 8 students (or 9) for each session. The principal will conduct the information session whereas the main admission teacher will take the children to the classroom. My daughter did not really tell me anything about the interview but it was conducted in a group manner. One of the exercise is to ask my daughter to draw a picture. In the mean time, the principal took us to tour the whole campus, visit many classrooms in action, and talked about our concerns. Each classroom has one main teacher in charge and an assistant at all time. I don't know whether many interview sessions they have per day. If they only have one, then they only invite a very limited number of students for interview. So, if you got a chance for an interview, your chance of success will be a lot higher. I hope this will help.

Almost all parents were British so all will be accepted to the school. I don't know the detail of the test because my daughter didn't really tell me or she just too young to remember. If you got a letter for an interview, the chance of success is very high. There was only one interviewer, that is the British teacher in charge of admission. The admission teacher has the 100% power to admit or deny any application. Oh, the school was in Hong Kong side and the interview told about 45 minutes. The principal told the parents that the competition for a space in ESF schools is extremely competitive, qualified people have to wait for years before there is a vacancy.

When did you receive the result?
Did ESF staff announce the result to all parents? or one to one?
Are you wait in the waiting area?

Just received an email message from SJS and so glad to know that she has been accepted by the school. We have 2 weeks time to consider if we take this offer.

In other forums, most ESF said it will post admission letter out in early Feb. In NatMom case (congratulation to NatMom too) it may mean competition among IS in Shatin is keen too (SJS, RCHK, ICS, GSIS) so school like SJS start to take student first.... just my guess!

Congratulation to Natmom! It looks like that they need the 2 weeks consideration period for Catagory 1 applicants to decide whether to accept or to deny the offer so that they can count the space available for Catagory 2 offers in the second round. That is why they need to send out the letter after the Chinese new year, that is about 2 weeks from Natmom got her email notice.

比心機等。我兒子也排了3年才等到sjs入讀P3，現在己是Y8了。看到他成績多好，當年慶幸沒有撰錯。邊讀邊等吧...............

yes, this is to those parents who are still waiting for ESF vacancies. I have friends whose daughter was in SC (now studying in overseas) but son who had a hard time studied in famous local school, has waited for ESF vacancies for so many years (regardless he has sibling in ESF), until now he ends up in RC and has a much happier life, for the kid himself, and for the whole family.

I think you should try Japanese International School (Tai Po) as well. It is a very good school. Application should be sent at age 3 and starts school at 4 - reception class.
