it's really difficult to find a good place to learn Eng in hk... my friend recommended M academy to me cuz her son got very good grades after studying their "Power series"
They teach English 1 level in advance. my girl loves to go there & she said it's fun & easy... the teacher has lots of experience in tutoring famous schools. however, her class is always full....

what mean by Power series?? i want to know more abt this, pls pm the info to me.........i hv a 6 yrs old son .....he seems forgot the vocab that learnt b4.....any class that can help??

"

ower series" teach English in one advanced level... that means if your son is 6 yrs old (i assume he is P1), the course will teach P2's curriculum. They use DGJS's curriculum to teach, so the standard is very high. Actually, the one teaches my son is a past student of DGS.

If your son has difficulty in remembering vocabulary, u can check out their IPA course (International Phonetic Alphabets). This helps his dictation as he no longer needs to memorize all spellings. I know it's very tough for kids. Instead, he will be able to break the word into different syllables when hearing the sound. This helps to correct his pronunciation too.

well, i remember they have a 2-month interview preparation course.. it's pretty intensive & at the end u'll have a portfolio (report) of your child to be brought to the interviews.....

but schools' interviews are usually on Feb/ Mar wor ... i'm afraid u're running out of time... some learning centres' courses r 6-month ga......

as for the website.. i called them for u... pls check it out... it's always good to call them personally & c if they really suit your child... Good luck!

i went to the center, it's a comfortable place... my son joined their Grammar & wordbuilder course... i think the teacher is very patient & she can figure out my son's problem easily... hope my son can make improvement.. thanks coco

oh... i'm new to this blog.... this is cool... really informative for parents...

i'm surprised to find u guys talking about M academy.. this is a rather low key learning centre, but it's very popular in my school... worth trying... esp for my daughter as the syllabus is the same as the one in her school.. we form a group of 6 before registration so that we can choose the time and teacher... plus, my daughter can go there with all her friends after school

my daughter is K3 now. she's going to St Paul's convent for P1. i'm worried that it will be hard for her to catch up in P1. After all, K3's stuff is rather easy and i heard that the syllabus in St Paul is quite difficult. Do u know if they have any preparation course like this??

u can try their english course. if your daughter can pass their assessment, u can take P1's english course.

i'd recommend miss chan if there's still vacancies.. she's the most popular teacher there...

i was a bit skeptical when i saw u all discussing this centre. because i tried many other english centres before and they are very disappointing.

finding a suitable time to fit in my daughter's schedule is not easy, i need to change her other classes in order to make that. but it is worthy to do that...

i was late for the first lesson & the teacher has started already. however, the teacher waited till the class finished and asked me to wait a bit longer because she wanted to teach back what my girl has missed. it ran over her break time and she needed to continue her next lesson right away. i can c she is very patient in explaining things and she has the technique to teach. even though she told me this is the exceptional case since she wants to make sure my girl gets a good start, i think she's really enthusiastic in her teaching.. this is just what i'm looking for.

the teachers r not native speakers, but their english r very good. They graduated from schools like DGS, DBS, Wah Yan.... my girl's teacher is from DGS....

i personally don't prefer native speakers cuz their grammar r usually all over the place and they can't really explain things to my kids.

我個仔由k1就已經開始補英文啦, 依家啲成績都keep得唔錯, 聽同講更加ok , 所以我覺得補英文就最好用外籍教師, 我仔仔係嗰間中補咗好耐, 我就覺得佢地啲老師都幾nice, 同埋佢地有工作紙派番屋企, 我都會知道仔仔係嗰度學過啲咩.

the centre has english courses for 3 yrs old kids too... but there's no stream division. it includes speaking, listening, reading, vocab, writing in one go

my niece is taking their english course.. she's 1.5 yrs old too.. u can make good use of their free assessment cuz their teacher would recommend which course is good for your son

u can wait till summer to take interview course... if u take it too early, u may just waste your money as your child may not remember the technique

M academy

I have been reading now and then about this place in Kowloon Tong called M Academy. So today I decided to go and see whether it's suitable for my children.

I wanted into the Innocentre next to Kowloon Tong. The receptionist said, every company in this bldg is for "design". Nothing for children.
Then I asked her to check the directory again, she said, well, maybe... there is ONE but she doesn't know which one because a few days ago, another mommy came to inquire.

So I went to the directory board and looked, figured it was Room 418, under M "something" not M Academy. Forgot what it said.

I took the elevator up to 4th floor. Walked towards 418. The receptionist told me to look for 417, under City University's programming.

As I walked down the hallway, I nearly suffocated. The hallway was in SUCH a bad smell, of sweat, and body odor, STINK ! Then passed by all these empty offices/space..... walked to the end of the hallway, saw 417, and 418. 418, has the "m" sign on the door, but no on is in there. I asked 417 whether 418 is affiliated with them, they said no. I asked whether 418 is M Academy for children to learn English and courses for children.

417 City University staff said, NO IDEA.

1) Firstly I like to say, if this place is so great, then why NOBODY who works in the building even knows about it?
2) It's in a VERY bad location.
3) I wouldn't want my child taking lessons in that place and environment.
4) There was NO one there, not even any name displayed.

My point is, I am suspicious who has been writing about this M academy place... just advertising for himself?

the place is not that worse....my son learning there 3 mths already...he loves that place much...it quite large....maybe u need to phone b4 u go la....
