Just wonder if anyone have been offered an interview for P1 for either DC or any ESF school, without any connection (sibling etc...) to the school?

I have quite a few friends applied but only one have been invite for an interview and this is a sibling case as well.

my daughter got interview from Quarry Bay school, she got no connection.....not from ESF kindergarten (she's studying in SWCK) and she's cat 2

good for you. i guess it is also depends on the individual school as well. hope your daughter will get in the school and btw, what does it mean by cat 2?

I'm sure its strongly depends on the location of the ESF school. Cat 2 means St. Catherine K2.....

cat 2 would mean the category 2 of ESF's criteria of admissons. Details as follows:

Category One

Children who speak English as a first or alternative language but do not speak Cantonese and/or read and write Chinese characters.

Category Two

Children who can access the local system but who also meet ESF's entrance requirements.

Within each category priority will be given to students who:

are siblings of children already attending an ESF school;
are attending an ESF Educational Services Ltd Kindergarten (for Year One only);
are former students returning from a period overseas;
have a parent who is a full-time employee of ESF;
are the children of former ESF students.

i think its cos we r in the HK island and as u also know the competition in hk island not as high as the KLN side or NT....(got several ESF school in HK side)....anyway where's ur zone? not in hk side?

Yes, I do believe that the area (location) makes a lot of difference. We are in Discovery Bay and the area is full of expat.

But what type of kinder is your daughter going?
I'm sure they do prefer the real IS kinder!

My daughter will has the interview from Kennedy School, and she is studying in Woodlands School.

I think it helps a lot if the kid is studying in "real" int'l kindergarten.

But not sure will it help the kid to get into ESF school if my kid is under CAT 2. Even though the Woodlands school keeps on saying that their past record of students get into ESF school is very high.

My daughter is also at Woodland and granted an interview at Kennedy in Feb. When's your daughter's interview? Wonder how they group the kids for interview.

Students from ESF kinder will have a better chance, comparing to those not going to it, even from a real IS kinder.

i dont know QBS's standard on offer interview.....but my daughter's studying in small world christian kindergarten,,,,using kids from this kindergarten often got interview chance as they have good relationship with ESF.....i dont know if its the reason...

囝囝和囡囡都是上午在Alison Letterland Int'l School(同學95%係西人及大部份升上QBS),下午就讀一間Bilingual kindergarten.

Urm... so what is KCIS stands for, please?

Sounds like KCIS also makes you wait list on Yr1.

Would you consider another ESF school in other zone? I had a friend who's kid managed to get in the school out of their zone in the middle of the school term last year. I honestly do not know much about ESF's policy but I think there is no harm to try.

我覺得KCIS的學制與ESF差不多，只是校舍比較舊．
因為我今年6月申請KCIS yr1 時已過了interview date，因此只能放我入waiting list，我唔知怎樣和可唔可以申請ESF其他分校，但相信間間都咁難入，RC & DC 又太遠了！我是住在砲台山呢！
妳小朋友是否有申請？現情況如何？

my case really like what u think...

before when my daughter's in K2 in SWCK, she really got accept from ESF SW....but finally i refused the offer and keep in SWCK....cos i think SWCK's more warm and not so commerical...so now seems its a good decision....i still have an interview from QBS
