Got a place in Wah Yan but may go to RC instead.
作者: storyteller 時間: 08-11-24 16:06
If you don't mind to pay, RC looks better than Wah Yan, but Wah Yan is famous and have more chance to Wah Yah Secondary School. But RC is now in Wan Chai, may be she also can get more WY Secondary school places coming.

Yes, I heard from my friend that now RC is more aggressive and their principle consult from Singapore . So, now RC is better than Wan Yan. Of course, you don't mind pay school fee...

Actually! I like Wah Yan, because the name, history and the secondary campus!
I know don't what they're planning for the coming future.
Actually, they will have a chance to flight the new RC campus to increase size of the school and compund with the Secondary School. Why they don't do that?
I don't know!! May be the site of RC campus is own by another catholic group.
So how we can see their development to suit for the coming future! Or they're very good, should not change any more! May be the content is important than everything!

Actually after I talked to a RC's mom and her son directly, I found that RC's academic is not bad. As they use English and PTH as the MOI plus they teach 1/2 year level higher English, I don't worry about their academic. Every day their last lesson is a free lesson so that kids can finish their homework before they are back home. Quite a good arrangement. However, what I worry about is -- (1) new Principal in a private school (less experience and no supervision given by EDB); (2) the possibility of high increment of school fee every academic year (as a private school, $2000+ maybe too tight for her); (3) threat of 縮班?
For WY, I love her name and old history as well. However, alumni of WY (from aged 13 to 40) told me that they go for WY primary school just for one reason -- WY college. Deep in their hearts, they find that WY primary school campus is too small and the academic performance is just fair, not so outstanding, not strong at English or PTH. Sigh... 要名利還是要內涵?

睇完呢個統計數字,相信大家報St Jo小學時要三思, 上到St Jo中學冇咗三份一人,你都咪話唔驚.

You mention the "new principal"..... Which school do you refer? As far as I know, principal of RC is not new and the one of Wah Yan is the vice principal previously.
作者: rtam 時間: 08-11-28 10:25
I just talked to a RC parent and her son (P3) last week.
The parent told me about her feeling of the NEW principal.
So I believe that this principal is new probably 1-2 years new.
Did you register yesterday?
I paid finally after going through all the rebate and struggling with my husband.
He wanted to withdraw and not to register at the last moment that made me so nervous yesterday noon.
But I feel that we can still pay and further consider until January 2009 whether we should go and do the lucky draw.
I guess potential RC parents like me are so struggling because RC don’t provide any briefing session or open day, so we have to make the decision with very little information.
This school is too low profile.
I need more time to pray.

My son is P2 in RC. From my understanding, Principal Lily Chen is not new. In the past (when there are am / pm sessions), Ms. Lily Chen and Ms. Linda Fung are the principals of RC. After Ms. Fung retires and RC has changed to whole-day school, Ms. Chen becomes the principal of RC.
(Pls. correct me if I'm wrong)
Last year, they had orientation day in summar holiday. During the orientation, there were briefing sessions by the principal and class teacher. Also, there were some game stalls and my son were very happy. The notice of orientation day will not be dispatched at this stage. This will follow together with other notices (school fee, uniform, school bus, text book....) after the registration.

npMaMa,
Yes, thanks for the info.
That mommy said that she likes very much the format Principal who is now retired.
She didn’t tell the current Principal is actually the format Vice-principal.
So that’s better, she is new on Principal position, but she has well experience to manage the school.
I saw her greeting parents & kids on the interview day.
Do you mind to tell me why you choose RC 2 years ago?
Everyone has their own story, perhaps yours is not relevant to me but it might be able to inspire me during the decision progress.
You know when your other half doesn’t totally agree with your choice, you will be very stressful.
I feel alone and could only cry in my office.

My story is : My ranking of the school for my son was Wah Yan, St Jo, RC. However, my son is the younger son, only got 10 points in the first round and I could for sure that I had no hope in the lucky draw. That was why I finally chose RC. At least RC is no. 3 in my mind and from other parents' advice, RC's syllabus is more difficult than Wah Yan's. If my son's performance is good in these six years. He still have a chance to go to Wah Yan, Kings.....and at least have a RC as back up although it is not band 1 top school.
Don't give Up and don't be frustrated! Try to compromise with your other half
If you can imagine it,
You can achieve it.
If you can dream it,
You can become it.

Hi rtam,
傻豬豬, please don't cry and no need to cry. You should have confidence on RC.
Don't you know you are very lucky to have a chance to enter this school. You can see the current parents’ good comments, the humble attitude of the principal, teachers and office staff. I believe your child will not be bad if he studies in such a good school.
My child was accepted by a famous school in Island East on 24/11自行收生 (choose one out of ten), very lucky. However, I decided to give up this golden chance as I believe that RC is much better in all aspects for my child. RC is highly recommended by my child’s teachers and my friend (former parent of RC and now her son is studying in F.1 of King’s).
I agree with No. Three, you should make your decision ASAP, otherwise toooo....much pressure la.

Hi No.Three & ononprincess,
Yes, I am not alone.
I guess all parents who are serious to education development for their children are also stress.
So I cried to relieve my stress.
Hope it can be over soon.
Thank you for sharing your story.
I feel much better.
I guess when I look back a year later, I will also agree that I am a傻豬豬 indeed.
npMaMa,
Thank you for your comfort.
You are right that RC’s syllabus seems to be a bit higher than WY after I talked to both side parents.
But WY is also aggressive to “boost” the S1 students this year, lots of tests and assignment.
I appreciate RC arranges 3 exams instead of 2 exams in every school year.
And then they will have assessments (scores not record in the report) before the exam so that parent can provide immediate attention / support.
In fact, RC students should have a better environment for developing their English and PTH language skills.
Though it was not your 1st choice, your never give up attitude will make you achieve your dream one day for sure.
