13個shields 自修...好叻呀..我個仔都係自修, 5.3 yrs old..有10個shields, reading 得1 個 shield, listening 4個, speaking full marks, 5個shields.............我都覺得好ok... 架啦!!!

My kid 6 yrs. / same as 13 shields

我的女儿差不多6岁，我和她一起做一点买回来的练习exercise，好运气有15盾，很开心。
我个人觉得对香港的小朋友来说，reading & writing 该是最深的，应为要串字。Listening 和 speaking 一般都该拿到高分。

My son got 13 shields. He took the exam a few days right after his 5th birthday. He got 5 shields in reading, but only 4 in listening as well as speaking.

In fact, I was quite surprised that he got only 4 in speaking as many people say it is the easiest one and my son told me that he answered all the questons asked by the examiner. Do you think whether the kids need to give complete sentences when giving responses to the examiner. I just taught my son to give simple answers.

You can buy the past papers from British Council, Commercial Press or Joint Publishers. You don't need to join any course, as it's too expensive and time-consuming. Self-study is OK.

My kid has finished the Fun for Starters and the past papers. The CDs are actually very expensive. If you would like to have the answer books and CDs, please PM me.

Sorry for my late reply!! Actually, Starters 1, 2 ...6 means that there are six editions of the books. Each edition contains different sets of papers. So, Starters 1 is completely different from Starters 2 and so on.

I do agree that the materials are expensive but the kids really need practice. And if you keep them clean, you can re-sell them. As more and more kids are taking this test, I think some parents may be interested in the second hand books.

I think the past papers are useful although it's expensive. No need to enroll the course for this test and the money you have saved - can be used for the purchase of the past papers. My son got 15 shields via self study and it's really no need to waste money on the course.

You can take Mover only if you got 10+ shields in Starter.

No need to take class. Self-study is fine. I did not buy past paper, but buy the exercises from bookstore. They are relatively cheaper. About $100/3 tests.

May I ask about the Reading and Writing part of the exam.....Does the child needs to know how to spell all the words in the Starters vocabulary list? Or, only those ones that has appeared in the pass papers? My son is 4.5 and I am preparing him for the exam however it seems there are endless material for him to study.

I already have the books (Kid's Box), passpapers and the CD. Any recommendation on the technique for self studying?

Appreciate any feedback
