大家好！

我小兒由傳統學校轉來，擔心不能達標會留班。

學校會否留班？

如果留班又要比多一年錢就慘!

我的小朋友也剛從傳統學校轉到RCHK，看見她每天開心上學，心裡開心萬分。講真，我起初都有你同樣的憂慮，但唸深一層，真係要留班也沒辦法，因為我地知道打好根基的確很重要的。不過，我也不知道學校有沒有留級機制。真的不用太擔心，小朋友會慢慢進步 : )

你仔仔今年幾年級呀？　我囡囡今年Grade 7，上星期先派左interim report .....

大家一齊努力啦

多謝你的回覆，不是怕留班，只是要比多年錢覺得浪費時間及金錢!

Although RC is a new school and needs students, they do have their ways of selecting students. If they said your child passed the admission test, then he should be able to cope with school work. Of course, admission process cannot be 100% efficient, so there might be times that students not really up to the required standard still got admitted.
For primary section, students that are weaker would receive extra help from teaching assistants/specialists. You can ask your child whether he is pulled out of normal class (during Math time or English time) to have special class with a specialist. If your child is not asked to be in those special class, that probably means that your child is "ok".
For secondary students, I know that teachers would inform parents when they think a student has problem coping with school work. So parents might be able to seek ways (either by helping the student themselves or hiring a tutor) to help their children.

How "weak" could a student be to remain in a year level (ie not being asked to 留班), I do not know. In any case, I am not aware of any student being asked to 留班.

There are different types of teaching staff.
Of course, the teachers that we most see and meet are the classroom teachers. They take care of the whole class and basically teaches the children everything: language, math, science, etc.
Then, there are the special subject teacher. For example, there are the music, art, PE and chinese language teachers (etc). Parents should not be too unfamiliar with them if they pay attention to newsletter, etc.
After that, there are the "silent heroes". Most parents would not be able to really meet with them.
First, for each year, there are 1 to 2 teaching assistants helping out the classroom teachers. Teaching assistants would help teachers out by doing the more trivial jobs, like photocopying worksheets, cutting out display materials, etc. However, the teaching assistants are qualified to teach. They also help classroom teachers to help out students who needs just a little more help.
Second, they are the teaching specialists. These are teachers that help children with special needs. They go around different year levels to help students who need much more help. For example, some children are slower in reading and would benefit a little more training with phonics. Some children might have problems in understanding certain math basics and need different approaches to learn. As far as what I have observed, students would be pulled out of their regular class during the day to come to the specialist. There may be 3 to 5 students from the whole year level that are pulled out to have special sessions with the specialist. I think separate special sessions are held for language and math. I believe parents with children that requires special attention would be informed of the arrangement. So that was why I think parents should not be too worried unless you have been told you child is really weak at certain area. And have been provided with special help.

Last year, 2 reports were issued for primary school and 4 reports were issued for secondary school.

The first report has just be issued for secondary school.
Guess the first report for primary school would be issued before December.

I was told that the first primary report will be issued in January, just before the Chinese New Year break.
