Just want to know the trend of Parents' choice in arranging private tutors / lessons for the children in CKY.

Does your child have any "lessons" after school?  (Exclude the extra-curricular activities.)

What's your opinion in this?

Be honest I do.
Let kids going to have extra lessons or tutors  on his/her weak subjects. I think not only to help, but also create more confident for them in school.
My tutors lessons was not helping them to do everyday homeworks, but just a lesson once in a week to review what they have learn or will learn. Doing some exercices paper etc.

This is only for my kids, but I don't mean kids in CKY have to take such courses and Principle was not agree to do so.

Thanks for your honest reply.  I am struggling as well as daddy wants the kid to have more play time during weekend but I want to supplement the kid's learning.  It is a dilemma.

How do we balance between happy time in childhood and learning?  When I was working abroad, in UK, the kids of this age were really happy.  They hardly had any homework and do not have any supplementary exercises from parents.  Yet, they develop into good thinkers and do not seem to have problems in coping when moving to higher forms!

Sometimes, I do feel sorry for the kids in HK. ...

My kids cousin are all studying in International school (HK). Which they do not have homeworks and can have so much fun after school-watching TV, NDS, playground etc. They really have fun.......
But this is also the reason why I do not let my kids to studying in this kind of school.
I think my kids can still play during weekend or finish what they suppose to everyday. (If everyday is a holiday without certain pressure, they won't value on the play time).

I let my kids learn music which I think is a MUST for kid. But the cousin's mom think kids shouldn't learn this and that, but only playing. And now his mom wanted to let them play, but it was already too late cause they are not under your control and they are too big to learn in their age.

My son does not deploy any outside tutor.  As he has two tutors, his dad & his mom to study with him EVERYDAY, including speaking English with him, reading Chinese & English books, giving maths exercise, and asking him to write book report.

Ideally, it would be great if we can integrate the learning into their play.  Yet, even I can do it, it really takes a lot of time to prepare and actually play with them.

How do you motivate your kid to "write report" with you everyday?  If they agree to do it, it is of course great!

Please share your experience and method.  How long do you need to "occupy" him in these daily?

For us, we'll assign about 1-2 hour reading time with my son and daughter every day.  For Chinese, I 've to read with him, as his Chinese is comparatively weak.  For English, his pa will read some pages with him, and then he could go on reading by himself.

After finish reading English novels, we ask him to write down the book summary for us, about 1-2 summaries a month depending his homework workload.  Then, we'll post them in his blog for incentive. We will read and praise his writing if it is good.  I'm not sure why he follow our instruction, maybe he could get satisfaction during the process, or he could not resist to his parents' commands.  I'm not so sure.
