Triangular number

dn= 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +...+ (n-2) + (n-1) + n,
where n is a natural number.

The  sum is  n * (n + 1) / 2.

Proof:
  dn= 1 + 2 + 3 + ...+ (n-2) + (n-1) + n    (i)
  dn= n + (n-1) + (n-2) +... + 3 + 2 + 1    (ii)

(i)+(ii):

2dn=(n+1)+(n+1)...................(n+1)+ (n+1)
2dn=n * (n+1)

Therefore, dn= n * (n + 1) / 2
