My girl told me that a girl in her class threw up in the washroom 2 days ago. If she's your girl, wish her getting better now!:)

I actually planned to take school bus but the school bus company kept replying me with the wrong info and I haven't used their service at last (since I have no confidence with their administration)!

Hi, my son is also studying in P1G1 and he told me that the lunch of today was so yummy yummy

. Moreover, a set of spoon & fork was given to student(s) who ordered the lunch set.

So glad to know that there're around 10 non-chinese students in G1. It seems the Eng. environment is excellent. My son also enjoy such school life very much.

my daughter also said that the lunch box was very yummy. She ate a lot. I found that her uniform was so dirty with a lot of sauce....She said that one of the classmates use the apron for eating.
I asked if she had finished the homework last night. She answered me that she had finished it. However, when I checked her homework diary, I found that she didn't do the homework!!

Help!actually she didn't understand what was the meaning of the words in the handbook... So I needed to teach her to check the homework diary everyday.....

My girl is getting much better after 2 days rest and she goes to school today. She also told me that the lunch box is yum yum.

Have you finished today's homework with your kids? Overall it has no problem for us but only Putonghua is a bit difficult! I think we have to work harder!

Hi pink-I,

My girl is in Eng group 1. The teacher is Mr Dennehy. I found a little paper inside her homework diary and guess this is the one for dictation. There're 10 words and they are:

big, family, house, mother, dad, school, light, bathroom, bed, tradition

It has a date shown on the little paper and I think that is the dictation date. The date is Sept 22.

Tks a lot. She told me that she did put it in howe work diary. But I can't find it, most likely lost at home as I come back late yesterday and didn't hv time with her.

my daughter left all the homework at school and she didn't do anything on Friday! She even said that she didn't want to take them from school as the teacher didn't scold students who forgot to do the homework...Miss Ng also phoned me on Sat..As I was afraid that my daughter would leave the homework again, I determined to get backthe homework from school.....

Dennehy is rather good as he has given a good comment on my son's homework dairy marking:"well done. home works have been completed at the class". It definitly motivate my son to do much much better to get his "another good comment".

He also got a sticker for another subject..hee...I forgot la~

So far, my son seems rather enjoy the school life there.

My girl told me that she's asked to do a split. Lucky that she can do it since she learnt Chinese Dance before (there're also some others can do it of course)!:) She also told me that she needs to buy two pants (she doesn't know very clearly what pants they are but I guess it is for the gym class). Did your girl tell you what pants are they? Can we order it thru the school or we have to buy them by ourselves?

Hi little-duck,

My son found the pronouncation of French so interesting and quite different to other languages, so he remembered some greeting words lor~ It dosn't mean yr daughter learning nothing abt French ga~

Haa....all kids like "appreciation".  So if teachers give them "encouragement" or "appreciation", they must like them ga~

As per my son said, the Putonghua teacher is rather serious coz she would blame on those naughty students who always keep talking during class. He definiately dislike she. But to me (as parent), I like she wor~

So, different standards from kids and from parents.

Don't panic.  They're still P.1 students and have long road for them to "walk" and to "learn".

For the pants, I've bought two black short tights (around knees length) from Apita yesterday since it has big discount (original price is $119 and now is $49 only)! You may go to take a look if you have a chance to drop by!

My boy is in G2 and I think the dictation words are the same (like last 2 times).

They will have quiz on GS (Ch 1-4) on the same day.

每天除了做C4cat (English), 每日一篇(Chinese)外,還需在 "現代語文,普通話"做一篇中文每日一篇(由同級排行榜中可知,"現代語文"好像不太多同學有做). (i.e 每天做 1 English reading and 2 Chinese readings)
今晚剛做完一篇English writing (30words), Next Monday 又English Dictation and GS Quiz ,忙忙忙!!!

I have not yet started the PTH reading.  We just started the PTH "pin yin" game last night.

My boy finished all the school work and on-line exercises at 8:30pm last night.  I did not do the 30 words writing (due by friday) as I (not my boy) was very tired.

We have to prepare for the dictation and GS quiz as well.  What a busy week.

I do not understand why the school put the quiz and dictation on the same day for P1.  Do the teachers communicate?  It would be good for P4 and above as this can train their time management.

Anyway, I would take this positive as a real example to tell my boy "that is life - the need to plan ahead and prioritize".

Silly me think today is a school holiday.

It really has too many readings to do and I give up C4cat and just doing the 每日一篇regularly. I found it difficult to follow thru everything (since I'm a working mom and I don't have enough time spending on all those readings)! My girl used to read some English book everyday but the practice has changed since we have to catch up the school works!

Could you tell what English writing they have to do? I couldn't find such homework from her school bag!

If your girl is in Mr. G's English class, she has to write a Halloween story of about 30 words due by Oct 24.

It may be a right decision to drop c4cat if you cannot do all. My boy learns from the 5 words a day but I find e-reader, newsreport as well as sentences rewriting are too much for his level.

Is this year's P1 more demanding than previous year's?

我地p.1既時候都要做差唔多既野, 不過唔得閒我囡囡都唔做c4cat同每日一篇. book report都係每個故事隨意寫幾句, 唔會花太多時間係呢part. 其他數學/pth既網上功課就更加唔會得閒做, 呢d都只不過係額外練習, 做唔做都得, 最緊要都係要先應付左主要功課先.

不好意思!進來打擾各位一下.希望各位家長可以提供一下資料.小女有幸成為09年小一取錄生.所以希望未入讀已可以有多一些了解及準備.
看見你們的子女好像已有很多活動及功課呢!
囡囡在面試時的英文表現良好.(因她幼稚園是讀國際班的)但中文,數學和記憶,副校長說都只是一般,剛過它們的收生標準.想請教一下他們小一的中文及數學大致上的課程內容.
囡囡的中文全是在公文式教室內學的.她很喜歡作文.可惜,寫出來的字全是中文字上面那行拼音.我也有鼓勵她嘗試寫中文字,但她總說很復雜.
另外,女孩子上洗手間會用坐厠還是踎厠呢?因我看到樓下的有兩款選擇.一樓以上會否只有踎厠呢?囡囡還未有信心及能力獨個兒使用踎厠呢!
此外,學生大多住在甚麼區域呢!因現在正考慮搬家的問題.
好像只有昇悅居一帶的房屋才可以走路上學.那些地區較遲才上校車(最好近地鐵站,方便我老公返工及平時出入).
不好意思!未入讀已問題一大堆.

The PTH workbook was retruned on this Fri and it kept at school before. I checked Ms Wang, G1 PTH class is only at every Tue same as G2, that means you just need to bring back the PTH text book on Tue.

BTW, have you finished the Chinese reading plan, my gilr told me one G2 boy read 80 books. It's really super.

THANKS for letting me know that the workbook was returned on Fri only. So it may have a chance that Ms Wang didn't give the workbook back to my girl (since I didn't find it from her school bag on Fri night). I'll call Ms Wang tomorrow anyway!

For the Chinese reading, we have finished 40 stories (sometimes it has a few stories in a book and we counted the reading by story but not by book) and returned the blue sheet back to the teacher already.

After returning the blue sheet, I find the green sheet - to finish reading 40 books by Feb 3, 2009. It seems that it is an on-going program.

It is definitely for the benefits of our kids if we can do it / insist doing it.

By the way, can you advise the English journal requirement (# of books) for G1. The class teacher of G2 requires above 5. My boy finished 5 already and we would try to complete the 10-12.

I don't know how many pieces of reading reports are required to be finished by students before 21 Dec., I only know that there are 15 kinds of reading reports in the reading Journal, so I decide to ask my daughter to finish all.....
In fact, my daughter cannot follow the instructions and cannot answer the questions in the reading journal and she only writes down something about the book.....I only let her to do them by herself....so the journal is very messy but seems to be interesting to her....

You question is a bit vague.  The English standard of P1 students at the moment depends very much on (1) their respective foundation prior to P1 and (2) progress made in the 1st 3 months of th P1.  This is why the school divides the students in 3 groups according to their respective language proficiency level.

The NET teacher encourages the kids to talk and write during the class.  There is not much English homework as most of the work is done in class.

There is dictation once a month / every 3 weeks in the 1st term.

Students are required to read story books and finish the book reports in different formats set by the school.  For P1, it is recommended to finish 15 books in 2-3 months time (almost one book a week) and mandatorily no less than 5.  This is the option of parents to decide where they want their kids to be up to.

Students will do about 3 story writings of about 50 words each in each term (about 2-1/2 month per term, 3 terms a year).

Students are required to do 2 pieces of high language content project work on their own each term.

Sorry for coming back to you so late (since I was extremely busy in the past few days and came home very late at night)!

For the English reading journal, same as Sara, I don't know the min number of books we have to complete but we plan to finish all. Actually my girl quite likes reading and she can handle the reading all by herself (as far as I know, her classmates' reading skill is pretty good as well). The only thing I need to do is to guide her how to answer the questions in the journal.

Let's keep it up to keep on both the Eng and Chi reading scheme!

Little duck / Sara,

G2 is studying French this term. I heard G1 had quiz / dictation on this. Kindly provide some info / details as I need to learn those first. Many thanks.

Dear monkeydad,
same as Japanese this term, they need to know how to greet someone, numbers, colours & school items.
I think that the teacher will re-create another quiz paper for it. It is quite easy. Children do not need to memorize the spelling of the words.

BTW, my daughter said that some of the students were transferred to other group to study. I think that the regrouping is not very serious so that the children will not feel uncomfortable for the regrouping.
