Spent more than hours to read through all the notices, I have 3 questions that would like to solicit all advices:
- Whether to join the dental care service scheme?
I had applied dental insurance for my son in the company and he can have 80% reimbursement for the dental expense. So far, I didn't use much. Unless my son have toothache, I hate to consult the dentist.
Seems the dental care form is complicated too!
- whether to apply all for the HK Schools Speech Festival?
According to the notice, no formal training will be provided by the school. I have no experience in teaching my kid nor find a teacher to teach him both English and PTH.
- which newspaper to subscribe?? all??
if the kid will have enough time to read all??

-我會apply兩張parent ID card,因為有時婆婆都會接囝囝放學,到時唔駛佢填咁多嘢!
-你試吓下星期一call番去學校,個書記姐姐會問番你啲資料然後幫你跟進,可能有啲技術上既問題開唔到。我嗰個開到,我上年都試過開唔到。

You may have to either look for some private centres in town or train the kids by yourself.

Some parents may subscribe “Daily 7”, SCMP, Standard or even Ming Pao.
if the kid will have enough time to read all??
Time will be very limited.
You have to be selective.
Sorry, 2 more questions:
- whether you will apply for 2 or 1 parent ID card? To apply for 2 parent cards will be better.
- Tried to username and passwords but still can't login the e-class? got this message "password incorrect". Is it not ready yet
Not sure.
May be you can try it again tomorrow or on Sep 1st.

我都有疑問,關於"購買簿冊,文件套....視覺藝術用品"(Cir.G005)的通告,
如果小朋友是Chinese,修讀法文,應該選擇:
"student taking French and English as main Languages",
抑或
"student taking Chinese and English as main Languages"?
兩個價目表不一樣,不知有何分別?

speech festival: i will choose cantonese for my child, it is the first time she join a open competition, so i just want her to relax, and enjoy it, one thing i concern is the material, where can i find it??
newspaper: i will buy English street, it's interesting
For Chinese students: should be take Chinese and English for main language, French is the 3rd language
Today is so happy, hope our kids will enjoy the school life here.

I guess i did the same thing as you did....originally, i went to the TSL Website and type in our info into the box provided at the right hand corner....i was told as incorrect password....until i started reading the booklet and knowing that there is an address to access the intranet.....then i could login.....

I told my girl to join the festival, then she said she is afraid, then I told her I just want her to get some experience, not prize, but it seems that she still has pressure by herself, how can i help her?

Is your kid taking French (2nd language) or Basic French (3rd language) ?
For most Chin students, like us, we take Engl + Chin as major language, then Basic Fr as 3rd language, and for buying exercise books, choose "student taking Engl and Chin as major languages).
Don't confuse French (for those students NOT taking Chin and therefore take French as major language) with Basic French (the subject which you chose out of Basic Japanese and Basic French).

I didn't join dental service in P1, cos I take him to our dentist for tooth problems and check, but found that the kids are left in school to do nothing when all their classmates went to the dental service centre. So last year I decide to join so that he can go with his classmates and listen to the dental staff telling them about proper care of their teeth and watch some videos etc.

婥蔚媽咪,
You may join it for your child first and then try to encourage/persuade her in the coming weeks.
To give her more chance to speak in front of people is a very good training to build up her confidence gradually.
Such experience is vey valuable.
Whether she can get a prize or not is of secondary importance.

小一派位嗰時有張白色既通知書,寫上你所屬區份。上面會有一個小一入學申請編號，那個編號就是啦！但係如果你既小朋友喺第一round收咗，咁我就唔多清楚！因為我小朋友要第二round先收。

Join as what Bluestar explained.
- whether to apply all for the HK Schools Speech Festival?
Join 1 only -PTH (relatively he is better)
- which newspaper to subscribe?? all??
Subscribe English Street only and hope to read Chinese newspaper and more books (both Eng & Chi) with him
- whether you will apply for 2 or 1 parent ID card?
1 only as I think it is more easy to be lost for the one seldom use
- Tried to username and passwords but still can't login the e-class?

今朝送阿仔返學...7點20左右就到..我們和其他小朋友在學校旁邊等侯當值老師到達...看見小兒班主任Miss Wong剛回來...她也和我們打招呼....然後我們便往所屬班位置排隊..和班主任傾了幾句....想不到她只見過小兒一次..就經已頗了解他....然後我便離開....小朋友們都好有佚序咁排隊上課室....並沒有看見混亂的塲面....現在好放心......

今日我仔仔自己坐校車回校. 上校車前想去廁所但校車己到, 我才知工人由昨晚到今早上校車都沒有讓他去過we we. 有些擔心...
我沒有參加大抽獎, 所以不知道什麼ref. no. 只是跟學校個人資料白色果長張紙的ref no. 填. 2008xxx.
我一向把比賽兩個字叫做"表演", 小朋友喜歡表演,但害怕比賽, 因怕輸. 說是表演, 佢地就不會擔心輸贏. 以前大女都好怕醜,什麼都不想參加. 受到學校氣氛影響, 她慢慢有了轉變,并很樂於參加比賽活動. 我想婥蔚媽咪你可以鼓勵多些, 當婥蔚見到同學仔都有參加, 她很快便同其他同學一樣享受上台表演朗誦的感覺. 仔仔會參加english solo only. 他亦很喜歡pth. 但今年他會報校際鋼琴, 所以我想兩樣己足夠.

11點幾叫工人去接校車.
工人見等左好耐仍未到,
回去問太太,
個太太唔信未放學,
還罵個工人,
叫個工人再去接.
咁個工人打電話俾我個印印,
我個印印打電話問我
"乜校車唔係2點半先返到咩?".
好心唔清楚幾點放學就打電話去學校問清楚喇 !
成日淨係識得搵個工人做出氣袋 !

His PTH centre has PTH recitation comp this Sunday, he wanted the prize (Gundam) so went ahead and joined by himself. Also need to prepare for piano exam - just after term test !! No eye see !!
Do you have any idea any names of budget airlines ? I need HK-Sing-HK for Christmas ! Air Asia only flies HK-KL-HK. Can only be waitlisted if I try to redeem SingAir tickets (don't know the chances).

1) Tiger Airways.

But you have to fly either from Shenzhen or from Macau to Singapore, not directly from HK.
2) Air Asia

Chin - bring 朗文課本(一上). The teacher will let the kids know when they need to bring 作業(一上),中文閱讀理解, and 齊齊學.識字樂.
Engl - No need to bring Handwriting. This is to be done at home and handed in. The teacher will let the kids know when to bring the reader. Usually they will distribute worksheets during lessons (cos there is no textbook).
Maths - bring the textbook. If you have a double lesson, also bring the workbook. But if it is only a single lesson for the 1st lesson, just bring the textbook.
Concl : Bring the textbooks. At most bring the workbook too if you are worried. But no need to bring the rest yet - too heavy.

Found the updated List of Teachers 2008/09 (with names of all teachers / classes), and School Calendar, on school website.

Just saw the new teachers list and the new school calendar.
Heard that a new Campus TV programme introducing all the new teachers was broadcasted in school today.
One new female NET teacher is from Canada.
The new French native teacher is on board now.
Seems there is a new Indian class teacher as well.
As for the new school calendar, we can see the TSL 10th Anniversay in the week of November.
Expect a lot of activities related to the 10th Anniversay in the coming academic year.

Dear all,
I think some of you have mixed up the school web mail (on the right side of the homepage of TSL school website) and e-class.
I think the school web mail is ONLY for TSL teachers and school staff, not for parents.
Parents have to login to the homepage of e-class.
I had the same problem 2 years ago so I know now.

seems like your kid is attending PTH class.
My case is a little bit special. My son and myself lived in Beijing during '04-'06.
He used to speak very good PTH but after coming back to HK without practice, his PTH is getting very worse.
Mine's pronounciation is awful.
I know 2 PTH teachers of hourly rate $150-200.
My husband strongly refuse to have PTH private tutor as this doesn't worth of money.
So, I want to find a good PTH centre of good quality (hopefully with higher standard) with reasonable price.
Any suggestionsfrom the parents? you may PM me and thanks in advance.

One question on P3 TSA.
According to the new school calendar, there will be an assessment for P3 TSA on May 6th and 7th.
And then, on June 17th & 18th, there will be another P3 TSA.
Do you know the difference between the two?
Why the P3 TSA will be assessed two times (i.e one time in May and then another time in June again)??

舊年P3 TSA 係有一次 MOCK , 其實唔當係EXAM, 只不過是比佢地WARM UP 一下. 如果唔係囡囡返來話佢中文做得太慢只完成一半, 真正TSA時要做快D, 我都唔知係 MOCK. BY THE WAY, 舊年佢果班做TSA英文都好O.K.WOW, 有時見囡囡全對, 有時間中錯一兩條, 佢話坐佢附近的同學仔個個都差唔多,P3 TSA的英文唔難.

Re : lunch thermos
Piglet forgot to bring his lunch thermos home 3 times last year :
1. Lost, thought he left it on schoolbus but couldn't find it, after trying to recall what happened he said he had it while waiting for schoolbus after school. Had to buy him a new thermos. After ~2 weeks, he found his bag + thermos, in classroom next door, the bag and thermos was there on the floor. Of course
everything was sooooo smelly.
2. Left it on schoolbus.
3. Left it in the classroom.
So anything can happen once they daydream !!

Now I remember :
once piglet forgot to bring his recorder, it was sometime in late May, and I took it to him on my way to work. The kids came out of the activity room on G/F instead of their classroom during recess, and piglet held his pencil case + water bottle + ..... (just like 走難) - I guess that was one of the mock exam days.
But it was not shown on the school calendar last year.

I know very little about this P3 TSA.
May I ask you some basic questions?
1) How many subjects will be assessed?
Only English, Maths and Chinese? What about G.S.?
2) How many/much additional exercises/workload will be placed on top of the existing P3 curriculum?
3) I guess the TSA marks will be used by EDB to assess the banding of each primary school and they will not be shown on the academic report.
Am I right?
TINGMUM mentioned that parents will know the marks later on.
Thus, parents will know roughly the level of their children in that particular subject just for their reference.

Well, we bought a few TSA suppl ex "books" which contain worksheets of Engl and Chin, and the kids were given some simple worksheets for Maths.
The kids were asked to do these, some during class, some (eg Chin compo, Engl compo) at home.
Slightly more than before, but workload is still not toooooo heavy.

Yes.
TINGMUM mentioned that parents will know the marks later on.
Thus, parents will know roughly the level of their children in that particular subject just for their reference.
The worksheets are marked and given back to the kids. Thus you know how the kids are doing. The marks are not treated as test marks, nor do they end up in the academic report. You can also treat it as revision for Engl Chin and Maths exams.

No.
The kids are asked to bring a tissue roll each, from time to time, to share and use in the classroom. When the class reserve runs out, the kids are all asked to bring 1 roll back to school.
No need to write the name, they just use what there is.
This is part of primary school culture : TSL is not the only school which asks students to bring tissue rolls back and share in the classroom. You will soon get used to similar requests. I was also 
about it at first but have now gotten used to it.

Tried to squeeze my son to tell me what happened in the school.
1st day:
- they sitted in 5 students in a group and he belonged to group 4. He said that there were 6 groups and he insisted that 5 people in a group. But ttl students is 33
- After the lunch, someone gave them books to read. He said that the words are very big.
2nd Day:
- Some reading.
- Spent a lot of time for handlng in the cir. one by one. He said that spent a lot of time to find each cir.
- spent some time for writing handbook
- then nothing
I asked him which books to bring for tomorrow. He just said that find it in the handbook.
Seems he is like a "cloud".
But overall he said that he is happy.

Well, for him it is only K3+. Will get used to it soon.
Just take a look at the timetable (should stick this at the back of the assignment book) and help him pack his schoolbag. Which is why he asked you to look at his handbook. Sometimes the teachers give them special instructions, eg bring xxx tomorrow, bring yyy on Thursday, ... and the kids write it down in the assignment book.
Don't expect P1 to pack their own schoolbag on the first few days of school. Although I ask piglet to pack his own schoolbag, I still check it every night to make sure he puts everything in, even for P3.

係呀, 小朋友6點幾起身,未睡醒唔想食, recess等於係佢地的早餐時間.
1c班講明唔可以帶錢返學, 所以一定要pack足夠的snacks回校. 特別是放學, 如果lunch order的唔好食, 要5點幾返到屋企先有得食, 真係好慘....
我試過帶snacks回校接囡囡, 初時是請囡囡兩個friend食,之後好多個唔識的小朋友圍住我, 分到一兩塊佢地都好開心....

我囡都有提到話去school hall, 有 p.2 的小朋友唱校歌比佢地聽, 校長有講話, 但佢聽吾明. 阿囡又話在課室看了很耐書 , 因為老師忙於整壁報板, 吾知真定假?
這兩天阿囡2時多回到家吃了點小食已說很累. 昨天叫佢做了公文中文才休息一回, 但轉頭她已伏在桌上睡了. 今天我也有給她小睡, 不然她吃飯時一定'恰'眼瞓.
其實現在她已沒有玩的時間, 睡醒已差不多要吃飯, 加上她食得太慢, 跟住趕洗澡, 趕上床睡, 如果吾夠瞓, 明天又不願起床, 很煩!!!

1/9 阿女handbook writes - bring a tissue roll. 阿女寫到好肉酸, 睇唔到個"roll"字, 佢話係廁紙筒, 見佢timetable 2/9 有 V.A. 堂. 要廁紙筒做手工應該無錯, (因佢 kindergarten 時成日用 廁紙筒做手工).
於是就帶左廁紙筒回校, 佢放學後話要既係廁紙, 唔係廁紙筒. 佢仲話好彩V.A. 堂未做手工....
我心諗點解用成卷廁紙做手工"禁"攪笑
上來呢度睇完先知係要來用, 唔係做手工...hahaha, 真係估佢唔到

今朝因落雨...所以自己送阿仔回校...我們站在排隊處等候...有個p.1女同學走過來告訴我們:現在唔洗排隊啦..自己行上班房就得嘞...我叫阿仔自己行上課室...佢話:我唔知喺邊喎....原來小朋友都要在樓梯底玻璃門前排隊..大概7:50am左右就上班房...校車在另一邊樓梯對出放學生下車...因一下車行兩步便到有蓋操塲,所以下雨對佢地好少影响..佢地都要在那邊排隊上班房....門口security auntie 都會擔雨傘遮冇帶遮的學生...

你就好啦! 可以送仔返學. 你兩個class teacher 好好, 小朋友都好鐘意佢地. 我仔仔話老師會又講中文又講英文, 小朋友都聽得明, 你唔駛太擔心. 仔仔話佢地班有些小朋友唔識抄手冊, 老師都有幫佢地...通常小一老師都好nice, 小朋友聽聽下老師用英文上堂就會慣, 而且班中有咁多小朋友講英文, 你仔仔英文又唔差, 成日一齊玩, 好快就會適應下來.

唔驚英文架. 好似我個咁, 最初唔識, 到現在情願看英文書多過中文書. 你試想, 每星期~40堂, 有30堂係聽講寫英文, recess又同d外籍同學玩埋一齊講, 攪攪下好快掂架. english environment係足夠的, 而p1 d 老師會上堂時中英並用, 唔明英文都還可以聽中文.
d p1老師全部都好似幼稚園d老師咁, 好識得tum d 小朋友架.

the PTH class in TST-YMCA, held on Sat.
~1x kids in a class.
Check it from their website (do search for "YMCA of Hong Kong" ==> Quarterly Program),

or get the latest quarterly bulletin which has just been issued, from their counter.

我今日炒咗啲炒飯俾仔仔,而明天都係帶烏冬。原本星期一,我整咗啲Pasta俾佢兩兄弟帶返學嫁,個飯壺就俾哥哥keep住,我就叫哥哥喺recess嗰陣帶埋個飯壺喺操場等細佬仔一齊食,但係原來第一日recess和lunch都唔俾高年級落下面操場,原因係老師帶啲一年級學生練習排隊!咁嗰日細佬仔就餓咗成日,要2:00返屋企食嘢。真陰公
