I don't know if he is in group A. How could we know the group.

Understand that there is 2 Aarons in the class. He is the one sitting near the white board. Are you in the earlier group or later group last Thu and Fri. If you attend the later group, Aaron is the one that all classmates celebrate his BD.

I saw that some K.1 students crying at school bus. As Aaron attending some interest class in kindergarten nearby our home by school bus, he did cry for one week at school bus. Therefore, he did not cry in SC school bus.

Oh, I don't know there are 2 Aaron in our class. I think you're in group B and so I haven't met your son before. Anyway, Happy belated birthday to Aaron.

As Ivan has taken school bus for a year in nursery, he did not cry when taking the 媬姆車 and no one cry in his school bus as he is the only K.1 student. By the way, Miss LEE said that no one cry since 2.9.2008. So amazing!!

Haha, my son cried on the first day (28/8) not because he's unfamiliar with the environment (in fact, he is used to SC as he came several times before on parents' day), but because I told him off and he got cross with me!

Understand that another girl (Sharon) is also sick today. My experience is that if more than one kid is sick in class, other kids stand a high chance to get sick, too. So, be careful.

Hi LaLa,

How do you know that Ivan is not at school on time? Have you go to school to have a look in early morning? Actually, Ivan's 媬姆車is not on time in last week and they say that they will change to another school bus in this week. Hopefully, the situation will be improve.

Though Ivan is not sick on Friday, he's got a fever today (from Sat. may be after swimming). At first my husband insist that Ivan should go to school (as Ivan has no fever after medication) because it was the first day the school start the 3-hour curriculum. Fortunately, Ivan did not go to school at last. I hope that he can go back to school tomorrow.

I don't know Ivan was late for school. And I do not go to school to chat with teachers unless absolutely necessary. My son Jeremy told me last Friday that "Ivan is sick, and a girl called Sharon is sick too and did not go to school." So I just thought that both were sick and absent. My son said Ivan had running nose. Maybe he was feeling a bit sick on Friday already and then got fever on Sat. Anyway, take care. If he's not recovering completely, don't push him to go to school as children will easily get infected again while they are weak. You know, the germs nowadays are really sooooo terrible!

Hi LaLa,

Today I go to school in the morning (to see Ivan's performance before the lesson) and I found that Jeremy's table is the one with most students absent. Ivan is in the middle one and every one is present.

Today Ivan gets a sticker from Miss LEE. Ivan said that not everyone can get the sticker. Those who is naughty cannot get it. Have you heard about that??

As Ivan is not an expressive kid, I always wonder if the things he said is true or not

By the way, I think that the school has taught the first 兒歌 from the Chinese song (not Putonghua)book as Ivan sing the song for a few times yesterday

Re. stickers. It is SC's practice to give out stickers and sometimes little gifts or snacks to children and praise them they're good. Indeed, the teachers would do it in turns so that the kids won't have hard feeling about not receiving a sitcker on a particular day.

Yeah, my elder daughter just graduated from SC. Btw, you talked about Cantonese song/rhyme? I only heard Jeremy singing the rhyme of 國際英文幼稚園 but I didn't hear him sing songs. If you mean a song (with melody), please tell me the name so that I can ask him.

In fact, he seems to be most interested in the class attendance only, reporting to me each day about who and who are absent. He even asked me why a certain girl has been absent for a few days, "佢係唔係唔讀 la?" :;pppp: 我鬼知咩!

Yes, I mean the rhyme of 國際英文幼稚園.  I don't know if the school will teach them any Cantonese song as there is no song book (with melody).  Ivan loves this rhyme very much because when I open this rhyme book for the first time, I think that this rhyme is very funny and I laugh after I read out the rhyme and Ivan then becomes silly after my response.

Today, I heard that it was Miss LEE's birthday and all the students sing Happy Birthday to Miss LEE and they pretend to give a present to Miss LEE.  Do you think its Miss LEE's real birthday or just part of the teaching method~

BTW, I wish to ask if it is the usual practice of SC that only one teacher remain in the classroom before 8:50 a.m.  When I go to have a look to Ivan the day before, I found that Miss Skye was not there and later she brings my son to the toilet.  During the 5-min stay in the school, I can only see Miss LEE in the classroom.  She is so busy to help the students to put the schoolbag to their own places and have no time to chat with any of the students.  Is it the same in your daughter's class before.

How is your daughter now?  Which primary school she is attending this year?

My son Aaron is sitting in the table near the white board. I remember that Jeremy is also sitting in his table.

My son did not tell me that they should bring things in Red but I heard that at the school bus station. When I asked Aaron, he said that they need to bring things in "orange". He said that someone brought ”福娃"．　I therefore put an orange and orange 福娃 in his school bag. However, when I checked with Miss Lee, she said that they should bring things in red. I finally understand that Aaron what to share his own orange 福娃 with classmates.

Where is the whiteboard?  The place where Ms Lee stood on the first day?  I haven't asked if they have changed seats so far, but assuming they're still sitting on their original seat, then Jeremy's blue table is the one far from the whiteboard (i.e. on the left hand side when you enter into the room).  I guess they haven't changed seats as the boy sitting next to Jeremy is still Chi Hei and the girl opposite to him is still Sum Yu.  I understand that there are Hayley, Nathan and one Aaron in Jeremy's table but you know there are two Aarons in our class, so not sure if he is your son.  Anyway, I will check with Jeremy again tonight about the tables.

The table near the white board is yellow (i.e. on the right hand side).  I only know a boy (Ryan Leung) in the yellow table.

Yes, they have to bring red things to school this week.  And actually Jeremy brought a red 福娃 (Huan Huan).  Perhaps Aaron also likes 福娃 but doesn't want to bring the same red one to the school, and so asked you for an orange one.  And they have to bring green things next week.

No need to worry even if she forgets to bring things, because it's just one of the means that teachers use to train up the kids. They will pick up the school routines sooner or later.

Hi tanganastasia,

Teachers won't ask them to bring a different thing everyday as there is one theme each week. Last week's theme was "red" but I didn't know whether they also talked about shapes. Perhaps when they talked about the things that children brought, Ms Skye would also teach other useful words, e.g. shapes, animals, etc.

To me, the most important issue is not whether our kids bring the correct thing as told, but rather the learning process that they learn to listen to teachers' orders and attempt to relay the request to parents. In K1, children may focus on exploring the new world and so not listening very attentively at school. The most frequent answer to our questions is "Nothing" or "I don't know". Give more guidance and patience to them.

Actuclly i have asked Ana several what teacher asked her to bring to school, she still said 'circle', and i found that they are really learning circle according to the schedule as week.

I asked Ana everyday, what she sing at school, she told me ABC song everyday, it also happened when she was in pre-nursary that she told me "The wheel on the bus' everyday.

but she did remember the name of her classmate even though she doesn't really play with them.

After the seminar i can sure that there is no picnic at st. cat. i am quite disappointed. As Ana in pre-nursary at another school, there is picnic with parent, but i missed that as she was sick that day. And even not many outing at st. cat, but only musuem and garden visits.

Another issue, do your kids sleep at schoolbus on the way to home? Ana sleep at schoolbus everyday that make it very hard to make her sleep after lunch.

Regarding the 家長義工,will u join? do u know will it occupy the time of take caring our kids?

I think my son is sitting on yellow table (near where Miss Lee stands). I also realize that Aaron wanted to share his orange 福娃 so he said that he needed to bring orange. Miss Lee said that around 80% kids brought 福娃 for red thing. Today, Aaron brings an ice-cream cone for "round" thing.

Aaron also sleeps at school bus nearly everyday. His afternoon sleep is therefore delayed, at 3:00 or 4:00. Yesterday, he did not have afternoon sleep buy sleep more earlier at nite.

Last year's K.1 go to 交化博物館 at Shatin so I think there will be similar event this year.

I have applied for managing booth during parent day.

I met Miss Sky last Sat and she told me that she sometimes asked my son "Chun Hei" as there is 2 Aarons.
As we seldom spoke English with Chun Hei, he is boring in listening English. Any mama has good English Class to introduce? We prefer Tsing Yi or Tsuen Wan area.

hi all,

I just clarified with my son who confirmed that they need to bring round things to school. When I asked him why he told me to bring green things, he said he wanted to bring the green 褔娃 to share with friends (we have 2 褔娃s, one red and one green, so after bringing the red one, he wanted to take the green one to school!!!)

Each year, there should be one picnic for K1 and picnic plus visit (for K2-3). During her SC years, my daughter had been to a farm, Cultural Museum, a dental centre, Science museum, 小白鷺中心, Tai Tong 荔枝園, 龍翔道瞭望台, etc. But there is no "school picnic" (i.e. the whole school goes on picnic together) as SC is too big, classes will go on picnic by batches.

I think your daughter is quite good.  At least, she could recognise Ivan and Jeremy who are not sitting on her table.  Though Ivan will share with me something at school, he knows little about his classmates.  When I show him Jeremy's photo, he first say that he does not know him.  When I told him that it was his classmate, he then said he knows him...

For the things brought to school, Ivan tell me that he should bring red things back home on Friday (actually he has not brought anything to school).  When I talked to Miss LEE on Sat after the talk, she said that there was less than 10 has brought the red things and she already told them to bring round things on Friday.  Still, Ivan cannot tell me this time.  Miss LEE said that I can probe him at home by saying that any colour or shapes.  He can tell me finally after probing but he seems to throw temper because he wish to bring the red things to school.

Ivan will not sleep in 媬娒車as it only takes about 15 minutes.

For the school picnic, I remember Miss LEE has said on the orientation day that there is a picnic but only one parent can join because there is only limited seats for the coach.  They welcome another parent to join but that parent much use other kinds of transportation.

My family does not speak English at home and my maid also speak Cantonese. Yet, my husband (with Cantonese accent) will spend about 15 minutes everyday to play anything with him in English. Surprisingly, it works and at least Ivan understands in the class. Maybe you can try to develop the interest together with the English class.

i have also confirmed with Ms. Lee that last week to bring RED, this week should briing CIRCLE, and i am so happy that Ana told me to bring "CIRCLE" this week which correct. Ms. Lee told me that we should bring color again next week....

yesterday i talked with Ms. Lee on phone and she said that Ana doesn't pay attention when teacher is talking (she didn't complain just beocs i asked her). actually i know Ana doesn't like to look at the people even she does listen. I always tell her that this is respect to look at the people who talk to you.

i will try to upload Ana's photo so u can also show to your kids.

Try to speak English to him, it's much helpful, it maybe difficult at start, just to contimue.

For my case, Ana was taken care by Indo maid (cannot speak english, only cantonese) since born, so i speak Eng to Ana after i go home. sometimes had to supplemented by Cantonese, but now she can understand and speak Eng very well and her Eng is even better than Chinese.

Now i just meet the same problem as you of Mandarin as my Mandarin is not so good that i cannot teach her.

I asked Ana today what to bring to school next week, she said "Blue" firmly. How about your kids? I have checked the English weekly plan and it's still "red" to learn next week and 'blue' on 29sep to 3oct but it sound doesn't make sense to learn RED for 3 weeks?!

I think Ana is right to bring blue next week, I remember in the briefing on 13.9.2008, they said that next week should bring blue and the week after will bring the kid's baby photo.

For the mandarin, I face the same problem as you. Though we can check the pin yin from the computer, the most difficult thing is that I don't know how to translate the Cantonese to written Chinese (Putonghua). So when I try to talk to Ivan in Mandarin, I can talk only limited vocabulary. When Ivan ask more, I can just say I don't know

The weekly theme toy, i.e. blue toy this week, will be kept at school until Friday. Usually, they just need to bring one thing to school each week. Haven't heard of any Jimmy bor!

Yes, Jeremy also brought home a sticker. He said Ms Lee gave it to him because he brought the right thing. And then he showed me some more stickers in the school-bag which he "earned" in previous weeks.

i just found a sticker in Ana's schoolbag as she didn't tell me.

I asked her again are there 2 Jimmy at her class, she said no and only 1 Jeremy,唉,佢成日乱蹹,無佢付。

Every time i ask what did she do at school, most of the answers still are "i don't know", and still everyday tells me she sings ABC song at school. But she did tell me she learn the Chinese song, 國際英文幼稚園and 搓個大蘋果。

Yes, Ivan took the swimming class (親子班) at 大力游泳會, I know some of Ivan's ex-classmates already learn swimming by himself. Yet, Ivan is too timid and the class with parents is more suitable. In the summer class, he has learnt to float with 浮板及浮肘. Also how to 踢水 blow the bubbles in water but he is too scare to put his nose into the water. At first, I think Ivan is also too small to learn swimming as he is not brave enough but now I think it is a good start and at least he is able to float if he has a 浮板 and my husband hope that he can continue the swimming lesson. Otherwise, he has to start everything again next summer.

Hi, La La,

Vocalis is a very good friend of mine and I knew her from primary school. Kelly managed quite well up to now and she did her homework very fast, only 3 homeworks/day.  Usually, she took 1/2 hr to finish,  I guessed she had finsihed most of them in school.
At first, I 'm quite nervous about her P1 life. But now,  I 'm glad that she can handle independently such as finishing homework, self reading, playing piano, pack school bag.

I usually come back home at 7:30 pm and then check Kelly 's homework, have some revision w/her.  So, I did not spend too much time w/Ryan.  I feel so sorry to Ryan.  I hope I can do it better from now.

Oh, me too! I also spent most of my time on Valerie while leaving Jeremy to play on his own. I even seldom tell him stories or sing songs with him, but I did so for Valerie years ago. That's why he's not so "stick" with me. And it's lucky that he hasn't become 自閉!

I also have 2 kids but Ivan is my first kid and so just like Ana, he needs adult's attention all the time. As I am breastfeed, only my husband is able to play with him most of the time.

For the things to bring next week, I learn from the breifing that they have to bring their own BB photos but Ivan said that he need to bring square. When I ask if he need to bring any photo, he said he need to bring his own baby photos but he insists that he needs to bring square things. Oh my god.

I finally call Miss LEE to clarify as the square and the album are all missing after school. Miss LEE said that they need to bring square this week but she also ask the kids to bring BB photo personally as they discuss my body this week. Though Ivan bring the right things to school, he put the sticker to a wrong school bag and so he could not get his sticker after school. Luckily, Miss LEE gives him another one and watch him until he puts the sticker into his own school bag.

Last weekend, when I asked Jeremy what he needed to bring to school, he first told me to bring a square. Bu then when I asked him in Cantonese, he said 長方形.

So I simply ignored his request. He even asked me to bring a triangle as well. 彩佢都傻!

Subsequently, he finally asked me to bring baby photos and then he chose two photos, one with me and daddy and the other on his own but looks like "long hair thief"!

As all your kids said square thing, I'll let him bring a square toy to school after National Day la.

Ivan said last Friday after school that "he could not remember what to bring" and just says that no need to bring BB photos (actually his album is still leaving at school). In view of such, I just guess may be nothing should bring to school this week. Maybe other mama can tell me if I am right or not.

BTW, I let Ivan to see Ana's photo and Ivan was so excited and always asked me to come here to see Ana's photo. Yet, he seems that he could not recognise Ana in the classroom.

As Aaron is shy to present his thing (even I have put it into his school bag), last week I put "square" thing in his school bag but he did not bring it out for presentation. I therefore insert a "note" in the outer transparent bag of the school bag to inform Miss Lee that he has brought the thing. He therefore received a sticker on Fri.

Jeremy's birth month is April.  He's really a chatterbox and he told me more last year when he was in pre-nursery.  I guess maybe he has a talkative elder sister, so he likes to talk a lot too.  Just ask Ana more about her school life and she will naturally share more with you later.  Perhaps, girls are a bit more shy.  Btw, Jeremy told me Ana's Chinese name yesterday and said there are two girls with the same Chi names in class (of course with different family names).

I don't need to buy 校褸 as my friend has given one to me which is size 26.  It's just a little bit loose but not too over-sized.  Is Aaron a small-sized boy?  Do you really want him to wear the same size throughout the 3 years?!  I bet you don't as Jeremy's sister is of a small body build and she wore just two sizes of uniforms throughout her kinder years and I was really worried then!

Btw, I think 校褸 is not a must in K1 as the school is quite lenient of letting small kids wear their own jackets in winter times.  But I heard that in K3, some teachers will ask parents not to wear their own jackets unless it's really cold (just like last year, we had 10 degrees or less in almost a month).

Birthday party - you just need to bring an empty food box without food (the notice also says so). Experience tells that parents of those birthday kids would arrange cakes or snacks (sausages, chicken wings, sushi, etc.) for sharing at school. If your boy is celebrating birthday at this party, you may contact Miss Lee to see what you can help to bring. She mentioned on the first day of school that she's worried that every parent would bring a cake ending up a lot of wastage. I think I will buy some individually packed biscuits or seaweed for Jeremy to share with friends.

Jeremy told me on Mon (?) that Ms Lee was sick but I didn't ask him further as they will have replacement teachers and so will not affect teaching progress.  You will find that it's quite frequent for SC teachers to take sick leave (I guess the school's afraid that they will spread the disease to kids).

Btw, I asked Jeremy who is the most talkative kid in class.  He said "me".  When I asked him "who else", he replied "Aaron" though I'm not sure which Aaron he was referring to.  Is your Aaron a chatterbox too?

This week, they don't need to bring other things except their favourite clothes.  And you should be happy about Ana's increased curiosity to explore new things.  Being a daring child is better than being a shy one.

Ana brought a dress to school last week and i didn't find it in her schoolbag after school, i think ms. lee has kept it.

She also told me that ms. lee is sick and another ms. lee and ms. jen replaced (i didn't heard about ms. yeung).

Few days before she cried becos she forgot a song she learnt from ms. jen, the song name is sound like 'intrind run away', can u asked your kids what is the proper name?

Ana have brought a lot of food to B party, however, it left a lot. ms. lee said becos there are too many food and the kids were very happy that day.

btw, ms. lee said the kids have to bring something re fireman, e.g. picture, toys to school next week. i found it difficult becos i have nothing re fireman. i can only find some picture from the books.

Thank you for your tips. I seldom go to see that chatroom. So I will also prepare triangle as there's no harm to bring one more thing. Perhaps Ms Lee will talk about policeman and Ms Skye about triangle. You may also bring a picture of policeman as next week's Chinese rhyme is "Good policeman".
