Hi All,
I have some questions. I am an expat and I would think eventually, my son will move back to the USA.
I am very much confused about the school system here (my son is only in the N1 right now). There are IS and there are local schools of course.
How difficult is it to get into a CIS, HKIS, and related?
How good is the local shool (good ones) in terms of English ability? I seen TV interviews that some from St. Paul and such can speak very good English but not sure if that is the exception or not.

Hi I dont have experience with CIS or HKIS so may be other parents have relevant inputs for you on that. I would like to suggest if you are thinking of going back to USA in a few years time, will it be better for you to choose schools with American cirriculum for an easier transition in future for your child. Top local schools are really good but then at the same time the entrance examinations are extremely competitive. If you can afford IS, I would say by all means go for it, considering that HK wl not be your permanent home. IS teaches Mandarin as well so might be a bonus in your case. If you visit the EMB website, it gives you a general idea of the school system in Hong Kong (local govt, private, direct subsidy, ESF etc). Good luck!!
