My son is attending one in North Point.  The teachers there teaches both Chinese and western painting.  I learnt from the leaflet that the founder studied architecture in England, but he loves teaching much and therefore he attained qualifications in teaching and then he started teaching.  I really think that he has the "heart" to teach art!

My son used to learn with a lady living upstairs but I don't like her approach.  All the children in the group draw the same thing, and then when I asked my son to draw the things that he showed me he just didn't know how to draw!

Now my son has become more creative.  Also, the studio offers certificate and I heard from the teachers that next year they will organize an exhibition.  I think that is good because I can put the information in my son's portfolio when he applies for p1.

The studio is not a big one, but I think at least they are professional.  The tuition fee is OK la, $120 per lesson.

Thank you all mammies for your replies.  I also heard about Lo Fung and their waiting list is really long that kids usually have to wait for 2 years for enrollment (weekday class can be faster, ~1.5 yrs.)

However, are they technique driven or a centre encouraging creativity?  What's the teaching method there and the background of the teachers there?

I once went up to their centre looking forward to getting more info of them.  However, you won't be able to see their classrooms, how/what the kids are doing (understanding that the centre may like to avoid disturbance to students).  But there's really no info at all the staff there can provide u... no leaflet, no website.  Quite mysterious to new joiners...

My son is not learning in Lo Fung but another one in North Point.  I agree with Lounda that we don't know what's happening inside the classroom in Lo Fung.

I used to wait for Lo Fung also.  But I asked myself why I have to wait?  Why do I have to delay the chance to stimulate my son's creativity just for the "name" of the centre?

The centre that my son is now attending is in North Point, it is an "open" studio so you can see clearly how the teachers are teaching.  Also there is no chance that the teacher draw for them.  Of course it is not as famous as Lo Fung but I don't care.  I just want to make sure that the teachers are "pro" and my son can learn from them.

In fact my son used to learn with a teacher living upstairs.  It is convenient for me and the drawings that my son brought back were nice.  But what I don't like is that all the drawings of the children in the group are the same, and when I asked my son to draw he just couldn't!

Now my son's drawing is not very nice, but I know that it is his own work.  Also the teacher will ask you to do a little bit homework with the child, or collect some information for the class, which is quite interesting.
