Hello,

I am trying to plan for my baby's education, but get so confused with all the different terms, i.e. playgroup, nursery & pre-school. Are they all the same thing? Or what is the difference. Also, how do they fit into kindergarten?

Pls advise.

To my best knowledge, I try to state the difference of these terms in the following.

Playgroup - run under (i) private or (ii) non-government organization or (iii) kindergarten - suit for baby from 12-month - 24-month-old - to learn small group life, concentration training and muscle development, etc.

Baby nursey - whole day or half day pre-nursey course for full 24-month-old baby - to learn and receive experience of school life, obedience, etc.

Pre-school - means Pre-primary education (e.g. kindergarten), some entitle to apply the Pre-primary Education Voucher Scheme (PEVS) - K1 - K3 courses - for full age of 2-year-8-month-old baby.

Dear olicheung1,

My baby girl, who is 18-month-old. She takes playgroup on Saturadys morning in Tutor Time Wow (Suffolk Road) at Kowloon Tong starting from March.....so far so good.
Before she joined TT, she had attended some classes such as Flash Card & KinderMusic course etc at her age of 9-month to 15-month-old.

$1,600 monthly tutorial fee (one lesson per week - duration of 1.5 hours).

I would say...no difference provided that your home environment is suitable for baby having concentration during play time. Otherwise, playing in classroom together with tutor will be better.

Playgroup at Learning Habitat is quite good. The teachers are very caring and they are full-time kg teachers.
