1) Why do you choose international system as opposed to local traditional school? (even if my daughter can handle all the homework easily)

2) Are you happy with Kingston's approach  and way they teach?

3) Are parents expected to be volunteering alot of the time?

4) Which secondary school are you planning to send your child to after he/she graduates Primary?

Thanks!

From reading your comments, it seems to me that you would prefer local school for your child. In that case, I would recommend for your child to stay at Kentfield and wait for the local primary schools offers. I have heard from Kingston parents that there are only 5 kids in her son's class (Year 4 or 5). So, even if you wanted to reapply next year, your child could probably still gain admission. Personally, I would not choose Kingston no matter if I preferred local or international.

Thank you for your comments. Can you tell me why you say no matter what, you won't choose Kingston ? What don't you like about it?

I personally am hesitating because :
1) Campus is too tiny.
2) Other parents told me, after P.6, their academic standards are too low, can't get into good Secondary schools.

Let's take an objective look at the schools that you have mentioned and not argue local vs international for the moment.

The local schools that you are considering for your child are all top tier schools in Hong Kong, and that is an indication of their academic excellence in terms of curriculum as well as caliber of students. However, Kingston is definitely not a top tier international school in HK. According to a previous thread, I believe that some one wise mentioned that the top tier IS in HK would be HKIS, CIS, GSIS, ESF, etc. I would dare say that Kingston would not even be in 2nd tier.

I think it is important for you to decide what path you believe to be right for your child. If you choose local, then definitely try to get in to those schools of your choice. If you decide international, then you should take a look at the other IS in HK and try to gain admission to the best one within yours and your child's ability. Otherwise, it will be a huge headache later on trying to transfer as that is even more difficult.

Thanks for your comments.

I decided to turn down Kingston. Just wanted to let you know, after lots of thought, and careful consideration. I would like to try with my daughter the top brand local schools. It would be unfair to assume she wouldn't succeed or will be happy or not in local schools. She's doing well in Kentville. SO until we try, we won't give up.

Thanks again!
