and no need to pay the fee. But you and your son will

Dear all,

I am new in BK and I open the account to get more information for my girl next year.  Can you advise me ?

1. Is it difficult to get in St Stephen?  How many application received this year and how many seats offered to P1?
2.  What is the interview style?
3. Which types of the students do they normal accept to the school?
4. Since the school is in Stanley, are there a lot of rich children to join the school?

Ya, I had the same question in my mine last year. Don't worry, I think the school manages it very well with their long experience in such. My girl (now G1) says each table has about 8 students from different grades. Those in G5-6 take care of G1-2, G3-4 take care of themselves. A nice place to learn from the big ones.

I would rather say the English subjects (English, Science and Health Education ,and Maths) are relatively hard for G1 whereas Chinese is more or less the same, when I compare the syllabus with some major publishers' exercise books like Longman for the first semester. Ahh, dont forget that they have to learn Chinese in Mandarin which may take some time to pick up.

The teachers are generally well qualified and so far very nice to the students according to my girl. Yet I have to add that this is not an "international school" with little disciplines, there are reasonable rules and I prefer letting the kids to blend in the school community rather than stepping in too much. My girl enjoyed her school life very much so far and found some stable friends too.

路程遠不遠很視乎你住在邊區. 我住東區7:20上校車都算ok.
比起去中區返學可能更方便. 12號我都係坐的士入去只需15分鐘.
你住在哪裹呀? 如果要用40分鐘以上才能回到學校, 我就覺得比較遠.
當日校長都介紹得好好. 正如我了解的一樣, between internationel school and local school. 不是死讀書但也有競爭能力.

We live in Wan Chai, the school bus comes at 7:30am and back on 4:30pm. It depends on the route, the earliest time I've heard is around 7:10am.

Is your the first stop or the middle way? I live in KLN but plan to move to Western, probably will need to get to bus by 7.

有沒有看學校2007school report? 48% Band 1, 44% Band2, 5% Band 3(大約). 直資中學每年預留84個位比小學, 其餘向外招生. 其實我都好想知中學校風和成績好好, 因為check唔到. 有唔人有中學方面的資料.

I have checked some HK secondary school listings (according to the result of HKCEE), st stephen college is not really outstanding, one reason (heard from others) may because on Form 2 or Form 3, almost half of the class will drop out and study abroad.

Have you heard about this rumor?

我都有聽過因為留學而流失學生, 所以中學唔公佈派位成績.
不過我相信學校雖然10優9優狀元不多, 但的確學到獨立和享受校園生活. 我認識的舊生一體一藝都好得, 又自信開朗.

至於軟件方面,因08轉直資,如參考其他直資情況,變數都可以好大.......可以睇定d先. 小學部派位也算不錯.

最近榜係校長報告,希望啱用:

lovely kids in coming Sept. FYI, I am still searching for the informations.to determine which teaching mode (or school) is the best for my son. Both of St's Stephen and St's Paul's Boy is on my list. Frankly speaking, I prefer St's Stephen and the key concerns from me is travelling. It will be nice if you can share which aspects impressed you most for the selection of St's Stephen. I'm afraid to tell you that St. Stephen's is not a happy school anymore as my son is now doing P. 5 and some parents (including me) noticed that there were few changes happened such as heavier load of homework (very obvious happened in lower grades), the way of punishing student (say if you forgot to have parent's signatue in your homework book once, you'll have to copy the class rules for 50times the least), etc.

Honestly, I'm quite fed up with these sort of 罰抄things. It's completely waste of time and most of all, it wasn't my original plan to send my son to a school like this. I have no idea what the school is up to now. Their school policy and other things........... It's not convenient to talk that much really!!!

Anyway, good for me to choose another school for my daughter last year. She's very happy with her school so far.

My honey is studying P1 in SSPPC this year. She is enjoying her school life very much. I believe try to determine a school is a "happy one" or not is meaningless as we all have different expectation. I would say SSPPC is not a happy school if you have a certain expectation on your child since the exam paper is not that easy when it compared with other band 1 primary schools. On the other hand, it is a happy school to most of the kids when they could spend their time in that extraordinary environment which they could run, play and dream on( most of the other city schools in hong kong are physically limited the children's imagination as they have no space to explore). Also, the work load in SSPPC are comparatively not that heavy but they require the kids to do a lot in writing and reading but not that much on the dictation items. It is good because creativity in writing is far more important than the ability of spelling words. Most important is the school could teach your kids the real lively English not the Chinese style English which is easier for your kid to understand English when they read alone. However, if you want your child to get a good result in their exam you need to do some works after school because their homework is not enough and when they go to the exam the paper is not that easy (e.g. some of the Chinese questions are coming from P2 exercise)So far I haven't seen any discipline problem may be P1 kids are still babies, but I would love the school to execute the punishment if it is necessary. If you love your kids, you should lead them to seek for the true happiness.

You're right. The definition of a Happy School varies from person to person. From my perspective, a Happy School should allow kids to learn with joy, to express their own ideas freely, to expose them to many different learning opportunities.

To be a SUCCESSFUL and RESPONSIBLE Happy School, it has to maintain a high standard of discipline and a certain extent of demand on its pupils. Kids should learn by mistakes and understand consequences, so as to cultivate a generation with great sense of responsibility and ability to confront adversity, allowing them to strive for a successful life.

It's too easy to be a Happy School;
It's fairly easy to be a RESPONSIBLE Happy School; but
It's absolutely uneasy to be a SUCCESSFUL and RESPONSIBLE Happy School!

其實註冊前想同我個女報木琴 (因為對學鋼琴的可能比較客易)
但註冊日老公一聽到老師話好難入樂團就縮沙想選其他. 但我細個學過小提琴覺得長時間練習頸會好辛苦. 所以最後揀了大提琴 ( 一時衝動啊....
