We live in N.T. but will move to Kowloon later.

Can parents please share your expectations and experience on the school.

I love the school's free and encoraging enviornment and we hope that our boy can learn effectively under such environment.  After all, learning is a life-long process and if one cannot enjoy the process, it is really painful.

Hello, Everyone,

My son will also join PKC next year. I hope he will enjoy his school life with not so much pressure but still can develop his "whole person", not just knowledge & skill but especially appropriate attitude & how to cope with difficulties. I don't know whether I'm expecting too much...

I just hope my girl can enjoy school life with not much pressure on test, examination. And the school is very emphasis on arts, music, physical exercise and uniform group, that will let the student enjoy work/play with other kids, rather than just study or musical instrument on own.

We're new parents at PKC G1.  SO far we're enjoying it alot.  My son doesn't like it when it's school term break (and yes, they have mid-term breaks which coincide with international schools' breaks - ESF too!).  But surely we're also adjusting and trying to align with the development as we are more experienced with traditional schooling (my elder son).  I haven't seen great leap in languages yet, except perhaps PUtonghua, but it also depends on how much efforts we're putting in together.  We are very lazy indeed.

Hello Goldfishco,

Oh yes.  The reason for my moving to Kowloon is for the benefit of my kids.  I don't want them to wake up too early for travelling to the school.

It is nice to have a forum here so that parents can share.  I am glad that my expectation on the school is similar with yours - we all hope that our children to learn in a happy environment without too much pressure.  I am not sure whether you have the same feeling as mine: while I trust that Pui Kiu is the right choice for my son, there are moments that I hesistate cause the school is still so new and no "track record".  I really hope that under Principal LAW who is so experienced on education can lead the school in the right way as envisaged.

Hi everybody,

My son has registered for 08 P1 as well.  I agree that Principal Law is an experienced educationist, from the seminar I attended on the interview day.

But one small incidence still bothers my wife.  On the interview day, my son joined playing football with a PKC student.  The boy didn't reject my son's intruding in.  But when my wife said she hoped our son could be one of his junior schoolmate, he asked us not to put our son into this school.  We asked why, but he didn't want to reply.  Have anyone here encountered such kind of thing in a school?

It's a nice problem.  My son was declined by APS.  Since PKC and APS are very different kinds of school, it shouln't be too difficult to choose. Right?

I think no one could answer you except that boy.  However, my son really loves the school.  He enjoys it very much.  Both his English and Chinese are progressing day by day.

Thanks.  I know no one will have the answer.

May I ask how long your son has been studying at PKC?  From different chatrooms here, I got the impression that Putonghua is much better than English at PKC. Do you agree?
作者: mummom    時間: 08-1-16 18:27

My son improve a lot in Putonghua and also English.  I can compare my younger son (he studies in PKC now) and my elder son who studies in traditional school in the same age,  My younger son is much better in English, but my elder son is band 1 student.  Of course, it is also because my elder son's school doesn't push much in English.

My son started in Sept 07.  I heard from other parents who have more experience that PKC was not that good when they just started.  You can imagine a new school problem.  However, it is getting better and better, they are happy too.  I am lucky, because my son just got in not before.

Mummom,

Thanks.  Have you ever thought of putting your son back to traditional school at F1?  Trust it will be difficult since the school has only one exam per year, and without ranking.  So there'll be no adequate info required by the traditional schools( who require banding classification of each student).   I asked this question to a teacher of PKC over the phone,  but she said they have not considered this question.

My worry is if I'll move to say HK island later (nobody knows what'll happen in so many years),  or if we find PKC's universities entrance exam (local universities)results are poor few years later,  I will need to have an alternative school.  And the alternative can be a traditional school.

Do you have any comments?

No, I have not thought about it until now.
The reason I put my son to PKC is I really don't like most of the traditional schools.  I don't want my son to be the "Exam machine".

Have you registered both of them?  If yes, you have enough time to decide till at least June.   But if you registered Pui Kiu, you had forfeited the chance of lucky draw in June  already(me too). But I don't have an offer fr a private school, my son is on waiting lists of 2 private schools: KTS and KRS. So I need to think about it again only when these private schools accept my son in June.
