Ｉ＿＿＿＿＿(wake) up this morning fifteen minutes
before the alarm-clock_______(ring).

The teacher______(start) passing the test-papers
before the pupils________(put) their names on.

Please help to fill the correct forms of verbs, thanks!

The teacher had started (start) passing the test-papers

before the pupils put (put) their names on.

My answers are same as yours. However,
the model answers are:

I woke up this morning fifteen minutes
before the alarm-clock had rung.

The teacher started passing the test-papers
before the pupils had put their names on.

Does someone can explain to me?

Refer to the dictionary, past perfect tense - the tense of a verb that describes an action that was finished before another event happened.

         過去       現在       將來
  _________________________│__________________________
      │          │
past perfect    simple past

e.g.

I had seen your father before I went.

I don't know why???????

The teacher should have made a mistake. However, the past participle of "wake" should be "woken" instead of "waken" and the alternative answers could be past tense throughout the two clauses of both sentences if we were not emphasizing the time sequence.

I found the usage book:

Past perfect tense is used to indicate that one action occurred before another action in the past. In other words, past perfect tense indicates the first of the two actions.*
For example,

When I woke up this morning, my roommate had left already.
After I had eaten my dinner, I went to see a movie.

Before I arrived at the theater, the movie had already begun

其實我見大家好多時都係用自己的角度去教小朋友做練習﹐咁並不是錯﹐但係正如以上咁講「係小學習作」。噤﹐Chapter 8 的習作﹐咪睇下 Chapter 8 課文教緊乜囉！習作通常都係要黎重溫剛教完的 sentence structure, 咁佢果一課係教緊某個 structure, 家長就話另一個寫法都啱, 搵黎搞囉！

?唔係shoot你,我亦未係學生家長,唔知課程點安排,希望阿老師切勿見怪

,但作為過路人就咁睇呢2條問題,用最正常既答案去答,而答案亦好似有問題 ( had waken??),第2條既問題亦似乎用 to pass 比 passing 好d喎,雖即用passing亦唔可以話錯既

小兒學校(小學)的課外練習﹐也是跟著課程的進度而給的﹐課外練習的chapter 如遇未教上的課題﹐會 skip﹐留待教了後才做。

此外﹐其實我是很同意 model answer 的答案﹐這個答案都很正常﹐因為我還有印象這是我上小學時學的 sentence structure, 在試卷經常出的。只是﹐沒有有關講解 grammer 的書本在手﹐咁就 beyond my limit 去解釋/了解原因了。皆因﹐離開學校後其實已很少會在一般商務文件用上如此的 structure.
