之前有個mama問phonetics and phonics既分別, 但我已經唔知果個topic去咗邊, 以下有小小資料可以同大家分享一下:

有冇留意字典上的音標?
e.g. 蘋果apple, 字典上的音標係[ ]
phonetics教點發音, 點發音, & 又點發音,所有的音標加埋一齊就會點發音. 所以,
學完phonetics後,照計只要按音標發音, 字典上每個字都應該會識讀, 而且唔應該會讀錯.

Phonics 教e.g. 見到ion字通常點拼音, 見到ing字通常點拼音, 見到s, 有s音, etc.
不過,學完後, 就唔一定
字字識拼音.
e.g. apple, ago, art, and, all, April都係由a字開頭, 如果要o係呢D字推測a字應該點讀, 咁就好難介定la.

其實我個女仲細, 仲未報讀過任何phonetics or phonics 既課程架, 以上既e.g., 都係我個朋友朋&我亞哥話比我知架

可以補充下呢?

What you mentioned here is quite right. But phonics also teaches blending skills. That is to say, how a word is pronounced when different letters come together. It also teaches about syllables. Say, 'beautiful' is a 3-syllable word (beau/ti/ful) and 'lady' is a 2-syllable word (la/dy). For little kids, I think phonics is better as we would like students to look at a word and guess how it is pronounced, or listen to how a word is pronounced and guess its spelling. It may not be correct but it helps students' dictation.
