I've been told most of the graduates go to IS.
But I don't have the percentages to ESF/xx ?
But, I don't think it is a good idea to choose Anfield and local stream primary schools later!
Anyway, My son love this school! And the teacher to student ratio is 1:11, last year my son transferred to Anfield, the school hired one more teacher in order to keep the ratio, as a result the ratio is 2:13 (a special case, I suppose!)

1. The main medium of teaching is English, with 1/2 hour mandarin everyday. All kids are strong at English. They communicate with each other in English.
2. The teacher-pupil ratio is 2:20, for pre-k 2:15.
3. According to the 2006 graduation information:
(from my memory) about 15 to KJS; 6 to RCHK;
2 to AIS; 1 to ICS; 1 to YC; 1 to Beacon Hill;
1 to SJS; 1 to Kennedy; 1 to local school.
Most of the kid (99%) will go to IS (their chinese are not up to local standard). If your target is local band 1 school, u may have to let your kid to go to one more famous local kinder in a.m or p.m (some parents do that! it's crazy!)

My child is studying K1 at Anfield. Up to now, I am satisfied with it. Everything is good.
1)
The teachers are nice, experienced and responsive. The adm. Staff is nice and helpful.
2)
There are two K1 classes (morning). They separate the students into different K1 class by their age. Big children (born before July or Aug) and small child (born after August).
3)
Teacher-child ratio. Officially, it is 1:10 as mentioned in its websites. However, I find it is even lower. There are 18 children in my child’s class. 2 native English teachers and 1 native mandarin teacher are in her class. The 2 native English teachers are always with them. The mandarin teacher is with them most of time too. I think she will only leave the class when she goes to provide the 15min lesson to the playgroup. In addition, there is PE teacher, music teacher. Therefore, I think quite a lot of time, the teacher-child ratio in my child class is 3:18.
4)
Mandarin class. In Anfield, the class teachers are native English teachers. They master the class most of time. I think English is main course and Mandarin is dessert. Even though my child could speak full sentence in Mandarin. For example, 我有爸爸, 我有媽媽. Moreover, she seems interested in Mandarin. Sometimes, she will ask me what is “xxx “ in Mandarin.
5)
My child takes school bus. I found there is a toy room (2 teachers are there) for those who come to school by school bus. I really like this arrangement. As there are playgroups and quite a lot of children are accompanied by their parents or helpers in the playground, It will be not safe if those come with school bus (no adult accompany) play in playground by themselves.

Hi vvupo
Local stream or international stream is a big decision,
worth to think it twice!
To me, I’ll work it out backward, that is which secondary school I like most, then Primary, then Kinder!
Of course, you can consider: What is good education?
Which approach is better? Which school can develop your child all rounded. what do you expect from the school,
and what the school is expecting you!
Good luck!

At Anfield, it's about 35-40% of students are native. I don't think that they're open. Let me put it in another way, they are outspoken, outgoings and confident. Although it's an int. kinder, it's discipline is very good! Not so loose, but reasonable. Most little girls carry lady-like character

Hello Tanker,
My son is 2yrs3mths now. You'd better check with the school. I personally think it's okay because by Jan next year, your son is still below 3 yrs. old.
BTW, which kindergarten you've planned to enroll for your son after the playgroup?
作者: sks 時間: 07-10-25 00:25
24112006,
Anfield is IS Kinder, but more than 60% of the students are Chinese (some are BBC, ABC). Others are British, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish etc. The children communicate with each others in English. In addition, parents also communicate with each others in English during school activities.
“Open” character ? To be honest, the children in Anfield are much pure and discipline than some locals I meet. In addition, I think children in kinder depend much from parents for moral education.
Children become easily influence by peer when they are in secondary, therefore, what you consider may be “will the children be more open when they studying in international secondary?” I think this before as mine is girl too. My answer is half and half, just the same as they studying in local, they will be “open” if parent don’t provide moral education by themselves.
Do you know girls in China are “open”? (of course not all, but it is common to have sex or live together). They are studying in traditional school, but they are “open” too. Why? Because they are not in their home town and their parents are not with them to provide the correct moral education to them.
作者: sks 時間: 07-10-25 00:26
Tanker,
Anfield teaches only very simple Chinese words, really not much.
I think the child could speak mandarin, but they could only recognize a few Chinese words.
作者: sks 時間: 07-10-25 00:29
AnpanBaby,
The difference between weekday and weekend playgroup is due to the adult.
On weekday, mainly the helpers accompany the child, the child is independent.
While on weekend, mainly the parents accompany the child, the children become attach to their mother/father and be naughtier.
My opinions are if you are full time mom, join Mon, Wed, Fri.
However, if you are working mom, join Tue, Thur, Sat. Then you could know more about the school when you come with your child on Sat, and could have topics with your child about Anfield.
My child has studied playgroup before joining K1 and I found it help her much to have a smooth transition.
1)
19 months : join Sat playgroup (to see if Anfield is good or not)
2)
27 months : rejoin Sat playgroup (decide to let my child to study at Anfield K1 as I think Anfield is quite good)
3)
30 months : join Tue, Thur, Sat playgroup (go to school by school bus, accompanied by helper on weekday and me on Sat)
4)
33 months : join super summer star (3-hrs course, adult could not accompany, take school bus, no crying)
5)
35 months : K1 (very smooth, my child told me “I am big child now, I would like to take school bus by myself”, no crying even on school bus).
Even if you do not plan to study at Anfield, I think my steps 2-4 are still good arrangement as they could learn to be independent gradually.

Tanker,
If you want to enroll morning session, you better to send application earlier. And it need to pay desposit (2-month tution fee) in around Dec.
On the other, it seems you care much on the Chinese standard. You better think it deeply before making the final decision.
Last year, I also struggle on this issue. Finally, I think I could teach Chinese to my child by myself and my husban prefer the education system of IS, therefore, I choose IS.
Of course, choosing local and IS is not only simple thinking. We consider many things before making this decision.
作者: sks 時間: 07-10-26 13:25
AnpanBaby,
When I enrol the weekday playgroup, I consider the transportation too since I don't feel relieved to let my helper to bring my child to school by bus/MTR by herself. Therefore, when I know Anfield allow one adult to accompany the playgroup child to take the school bus, I enrol the weekday class too.
However, the school bus fee is expensive (as there are only 4-5 student, and nannny bus mother is available), similar or even a little bit higher than taxi fee (for 3-day playgroup). Some friends advise me to take taxi but I think school bus is safer than taxi.
If you are working mom, you advise you to enrol 8:30am class, so that you could send your child to the school bus.

Playgroup, pre-program are paid termly. It really vaires by the length of the term. Autumn seems is the longest one, and summer is the shortest one. Actually, the fee is counted based on the no. of lesson for that term.
Kindergarten is paid monthly. While school-bus is paid termly.

Yes, playgroup child could take the school bus and could be accompanied by one adult. While kindergarten child only take the school-bus by themselves.
In addition, if there is only playgroup child, there is no nanny bus mother available as there already one adult accompany the child.
You could call Anfield and ask them to fax the information for you. Don't worry, the adm staff is really helpful and patient.
When I call, they even could recognise my sound. It is a really nice and family-like school.

My son is age 21 months now. He would rather speak in Cantonese, provided he knows you understand Cantonese. I am considering to switch him to either Anfield or ymca playgroup.

However, as compared with other kindergartens, I found the toy cars in playground and the other toys in the classroom are quite old. I'm wondering how often they clean those toys

My younger doesn't speak Chinese. This is the main problem to make her feel lonely and boring at the former kindergarten. Even though she was in International section, her classmates usually spoke Cantonese during rest time. She had expressed that she wanted her classmates could speak fluently English few times before. But I hoped she could build up both English and Chinese well like her elder sister who is attending same school at Junior section now. After interviewed Anfiled, she likes this school much. I have no objection for her request.

If your younger daughter used to speak English, it should not be a problem for her for the ESF interview. However, the catchment zone of Beacon Hill is big too.
On the other hand, you need to accept the education system of IS, it is different from local. You may need to balance between local & IS as your two daughters are studying at two education system.
