很多人問，Montessori 有這麼多派，哪一派才正宗？

最大的兩派分別是 AMS 和 AMI。

在美國，大約 18% 的Montessori 學校是 AMS affiliated. 大約 8 % 的 Montessori 學校是 AMI affiliated.  大約有 70% 的 montessori school 是 independent school ，採用"賢者居上"策略，兩派的老師都會考慮。

AMS 和 AMI 有甚麼分別？

有點兒像宗教的不同派系，理念及大方向相同。

AMI ( Association Montessori International )
AMI是由Dr. Montessori 創辦，由他的後人管理。 AMI堅持保留百份百 Dr. Maria Montesssori 當年的教授方式，絕少更改。

AMS (American Montessori Society)  is the largest Montessori organization in the world.  它的創辦人是 Nancy Rambusch。  她本人是個 AMI trained teacher。她想把 Montessori 帶回美國。因為她很優秀， AMI 亦曾發正式書面通知，讓她在美國當 AMI 的 agent。  但為了讓小朋友更有親切感， Nancy Rambusch決定加入了一些美國的文化。當時她辦得極其成功的 Montessori 學校是一所天主教學校，Nancy 又認為 Montessori學校如能脫離當時天主教學校，才能於美國發揚光大。當時 Dr. Montessori 的兒子Mario又不太讚同此看法，也許還有一些其它因素，Nancy Rambusch 決定成立了 AMS。所以有人說 AMS 不夠正宗，亦有人認為要隨著時代及文化稍略調整令小朋友更易接受。因平常時間有限，最簡單對家長的解釋是: AMS 就似是有點像 Americanized 的 AMI.

其實AMI and AMS 的地位不容置疑，但如何知道其它比較小的機構的質量？

MACTE 是一個質量監管及發Montessori 國際牌的機構，只要看看老師的 training center 是否 MACTE 認可便知道。所有 MACTE 認可 training center 都有極嚴格要求，9 成出席率，考試，論文，而且還必定要完成 9 個月實習，通過評審才頒發証書的。

Dear wongvick,

I took the NAMC training before I took the proper Internationational certification course in the US. YMCA (TST) is their local agent for NAMC.  For the same course, somehow the price is slighty cheaper at the YMCA than the NAMC website, so I took it at the YMCA.  But later on, I found out that the on-line course include some blacklines and DVD while YMCA doesn't. Please do the comparison yourself if you decided to go ahead with the program.

The course itself was nothing more than a self-study course.  It opened up the door for me to peek into the Motnessori world.  However, as I have mentioned in my other posts, it's a whole new world behind the door. I felt like I was a self-study medical doctor with no practicum expereince and being ask to operate on patients.

Whether you should take this course really depends on the your purpose of study.

1) Are you taking the course as a parent? Or are you planning to be a teacher?
If you plan to be a teacher, then I would not recommend this course for you. All head teachers in AMS and AMI school are expereinced teachers with international license. You might be able to be an assistant or helper in a classroom, but you will never be a head teacher without the international license and the rigorous training.

2) Do you like to learn by reading and written exams, or do you prefer to learn through peer groups?
If you like to learn by reading and writing,  then you could consider this course. The manual does show step by step procedures with color photos. You could rely on the manual and try them on your children at home.  Please understand that this is afterall not the proper training. Everything in a Montessori classroom is very specifically prepared, and the requirements for teachers are very strict. Every little thing matters. How we roll a mat, which side do we sit next to the children, which hand or which fingers we use to hold the material... We need to practise and practise until it is flawless. It is impossible to reach that level with the NAMC course.

(3) Alternative:
Another alternative other than the NAMC course is the teacher training course at Infinity Children's World (IC).  They offer regular parents' seminar and they also offered teacher's training.  The trainer there is aqualified AMS teacher.  The parent seminar is 8 hour.  The teacher training course, I believe is 40 hours.  You will not get an international certificate, but you will get a certificate issued under  "The Chinese Montessori Society", which makes a number of the local schools in China accepts the certificate. Since many school in HK now adds a Montessori classroom, some the teacher graduated from the IC teacher training are now working at the Montessori classroom in local kindergartens. Another advantage of IC is that you get learn in a Montessori classroom with a expereinced teacher and be in class with a group of parents or teachers.  You will have peer group and support group. they do have free one hour seminar as well. For further information, please contact www.infinitychildren.org directly.

Thanks for your detailed reply. My purpose is to take a course to guide my kid. Actually I am taking the infinitychildren course. It is very good. About NAMC, I am just interested in their Video demonstration. It is worth buying it?

One more question, I want to explore more the teaching material in depth. Would you suggest the teaching materials available in www.montessorird.com?

Montessori Research and Development has been serving the Montessori Community in the U.S. for over 25 years. They are presented in most Montessori conferences in the US, and teachers were ordering from them. Many US trained AMS teachers are the student of Dr. Rigg, one of the Prominent researcher there.

If you read the History Part on their website, it also tells you that some of the children who used their materials as a child are now using their material and manuals in their Montessori teacher Training!

真難得你這麼認真。是否跟足AMI? 這個問題可能應該由此開始回覆。

首先想告訴你，AMI的課程是不會派發 notes for their students to do their manuals 的。 Trainer demonstrate 一個activity後，學生都要細心寫下每一步驟。 Manual 中不會有照片，所以一切是手繪圖或手功作為 illustration.  因為他們深信一切自已動手做印象最深刻。但manual水準不一。當然是要給trainer grade and approve, 但有人寫得較好，有人畫得好。手工功好的不一定教的得好，寫得簡單的可能因他記性好，總之每一本 AMI 學生的 manual 都是獨一無二的。試問如何才算跟足?

AMS的做法就不太一樣。他們的 researchers 編輯好一套完整的 manual (text only) 給學生，(當然比網上版完整)，但學生必需再去編製成自已的 manual，把心得，照片，繪圖，手作等一切加入，編製成自已的 manual。

其實 AMI and AMS 的分別..... 唉！If it were a school, I could understand there is preference. ，些學校也許允許小朋友砌完 broad / brown stairs 後個玩 marble run (滾波子下樓梯)，但有學校可能不接受 (this also depends on the teacher).  你是孩子最愛的媽媽，又不用present to 30 other kids，試問在家中是否應該如此執著？

Montessori R&D 的 researchers 都算是 AMS 的資深前輩。他們website上的material當然不可能像manual一樣詳細，但我們也應appreciate他們此舉，如果你很想進一步學montessori, you could consider buying the manuals.

Montessori R&D published trainning manuals for many training centers, but it's not easy to understand and follow without the lesson, the photos and illustrations. You could consider buying the NAMC (the YMCA distance learning manual).  The activites are not as complete, but they have great photos. You could also consider buying their DVD.

1:意思是有些間較小機構的學校係AMI / AMS都會有不同的質量?
還是說不是AMI/AMS的學校?
2:如果間學校係AMI/AMS的MEMBER, 係咪代表所有教師的都自然是MACTE認可的CENTRE考試?
3:如果我想找那間學校是UNDER : CSI, 係咪最好選擇返AMI/AMS好D?

有Dmontessori school 唔係under AMI OR AMS OR CMI

佢地聘請D導師就一定要有牌先可以去教
但中間會唔會有人混水模魚
你更要去了解番間學校既導師資料
以免質素參差.

至於邊D學校係UNDER AMI AMS 果D 你可以向佢地個WEB到見到

我記得montessori school's teacher & student ratio is 1:22.
is 1:22 the max? 多過就最好不要選?

i just check the schools in my state, its really terrible!!!
最多居然有

1:162!!

多數都1:30幾-40幾!!
真係好參差!
ami/ams/cmi冇定學校的師生比例的嗎??!

還有,有些學校只有3個人,有一間11, 有45, 100幾, 300幾.
其實選擇學校的學生人數方面應該點選呢?

而我想去果間就300幾個學生,師生比例是1:15, sounds good,right?
但就差在唔係ami/ams/cmi ... it is accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and HAIS.
School Membership係: Christian Schools International (CSI)

佢話佢地係:Independent Schools...又係咩意思呢?
