This means in all schools next year, 5 seats are cut in each class, so competition into famous schools will be higher!

政府將於 08/09 學年開始，調低小學班額，傳統教學由每班 37 人調低至 32 人，活動教學則由 35 人調低至 30 人，小一的開班人數亦調低 2 人至 21 人。教育局長孫明揚說，希望新措施能讓教育界體會到，政府對改善教師工作環境的誠意及承擔，亦反映政府已關注到近年出生率持續偏低引起的問題。

According to EDB web site, it seems that only 2 seats will be cut in each class instead of 5 seats........

最唔好係好學校的學位同時減少。好學校的學位少了，入讀難了。

差的學校卻可因此而生存下來。

Yes, boboma, you are right. The news I quoted has given the wrong nos. So in 08/09 there will be 35 seats per class for traditional schools and 30 seats only for activity type schools. But quite a lot of traditional schools have changed to use activity teaching in P.1 to 3, so are their no. of seats reduced a lot?

I think schools and parents would like those good schools to open more classes. But, I guess most schools just cannot due to the limitation of no. of classrooms and also the school campus is not large enough.

So, if good schools can overtake those bad ones, more students can benefit. Only good and high quality teachers can really help, not just reducing the size of the classes.
