I don't know any Chinese class teacher, but there're several HK Chinese EA(Education Assistant) instead. They can even speak native Eng, don't worry.
Ah! My son's class teachers looks like Chinese, but actually she's a Korean.

Let's push up this topic!
My daughter started the first day to ESF yesterday together with us. She will formally start the school on Thursday.Let's share your experience.
作者: fishmum 時間: 07-8-29 14:22
Dear all
Can I check with you when did you submit application for your child? I have heard that ESF is very popular and very difficult to get a seat. I sent the inquiry to the school and they have replied me that 1 year before school start will be fine. Is that true?
Thank you for sharing in advance!

Which Class is your son in? My daughter is in the Frog
Class and her teacher just look like a Chinese.
I attended the class with my daugher this week, I felt thatthe class arrangement was a bit confused as I didn't see many teachers/EAs around during their Studio Time and
thus not much guidance was given to the students. I
hope this is just because this is only the first week's class and everybody needs some warm-up!!
Any parents have any other views ??

Well, my girl now studys in TY ESF K2 and I may share some of my feelings.
Yes, confusion was the first impression that I got when my girl started school in K1. I had even posted here for help. I had also even thought of switching my girl back to YMCA (she switched from YMCA to ESF) since my girl was much happier in YMCA at the very beginning.
But I would say, your child could make it!
Basically, ESF Kg tries to train the student to be independent. They would NOT remind the children to go to toilet, or to eat snack. The children have to take their own initiative.
1. Shoes
They have to change the black shoes to white shoes in school. I bought really easy shoes for my girl, just 1 strap, no need to fold the strap. Practise at home. But the children would learn really fast, especially if they see the other children doing it.
2. Toilet
Don't worry too much, they would help. If your child is too little & really needs help. Tell the teacher.
3. Talking English
For the first few days, even the teachers have to get famililar with new faces. Not to mention the children need to get used to the routines (which are not quite typical as compared to other traditional Kg). No rush for talking immediately. Later on, if your child likes to talk, she will have lots of chances to talk in english.
4. Writing names
I don't remember whether they required the children knowing how to write their names last year, but definitely the children have to recognize their own names. But don't worry, they would help if needed. Just take your time to teach her.
Just imagine, no homework at all!
You just have to teach her to go to toilet, to wear shoes & her own name. That's it. Isn't it great?
And, trust me, the teachers would help!

Hi all,
My son is studying in TY ESF KG since K1 and he is K2 now. His english improve a lot and he also told me that he is using english to communicate with his classmate. He said if he speak chinese, teachers won't answer him so he has to use english to communicate. Also he become more independent. For us, may be we will feel a bit confuse on the session swapping arrangement, but seems my son doesn't have such feeling and he can clearly tell me what did he do in school. An agree that ...no homework...no pressure...but still can learn good english.

Hi all
My son also studying in ESFTY K2 am, for those new students' mami, relax.......... tell the teacher your child's problem(s) via the communication book and they will help and revert to you the progress. For the time being, make sure you put one set of spare clothes in the school bag, they will help to change if necessary.

My girl is also studing the K1 this year. I am also worry
about:
1. when she goes to toilet, she cannot press the soap machine and there is no EA to help her. There is no
EA or helper in the toilet if there is an accident and nobody
will immediately help the students.
2. will teacher remind her to wash hands before taking
snack.

I really think you should tell the teacher about your concern (through the communication book or verbally). I am sure they will have special arrangement on that if your girl really has the need. If you don't tell them, they will assume your girl can do it herself!

Totally agreed that u have to let the teacher know about it. I noted that there is one kid that he will bring his own food to the school and the teacher remembers to give him his own food.
BTW which class are u in? My daughter is at Dinosaur class..

My girl is in rabbit class. There are so many things that I
am worry about. My girl was playing the sand last
Monday. I saw there are some boys are fighting each other. They used the tools which are quite sharp pointing each other. But there was no teacher to stop them. After a few mins, one teacher stopped them. I wonder why the school will use such dangerous tools for children to play. I think they should use plastic instead.
Do you have any comments of the school?

Hi Unix. My son is in the AM Frog Class, how about your daughter, AM or PM? Are they in the same class?
I remember I also had the similar feeling last year . But a year over, my son proved it is worth. He loves that school v. much and even wanted to go to school during the summer holiday. Don't worry, everything will be fine after warming up, just like the other mommies said, they will become mature and independent, perhaps even far beyond then you expect.

After observing the class for 3 school days, I am quite impressed by the k2 kids. Most of them have well manners, always volunteers be the "teacher" to lead the songs & of course speak flurent English.
It is so funny to see that my daughter actually refuse my assitance at the toliet on her 1st day at ESF. She never did ALL the steps herself (take of pants, wipe, flush, wash hand & dry off) in one go. She did it now, but only in school. However, when we are back at home, she is running around without wearing her pants after wiwi.
May be this is already peer pressure!?!

Hi JessMama,
I love your thoughtful comment and share your kind experience with us (I'm K1 student mummy :loveliness: ).

Hi hokittyho,
Yes, in the AM Class.
Could you / other mummies as well share your experience as on the concept of mixing K1 and K2 students in one class?! Certainly for K1 students it would be an advantage as they could learn from the older K2 kids somehow; but what about K2 kids who would then have to go thru another school year doing exactly the same as last year's?! What would K2 kids learn for this year except knowing how to take care of younger classmates??
Anyone have any comments?

I also feel quite strange & doubt about this system. Do they have the same class structure for both ESF KG Sheung Wan & CWB?
What about other IS kindergarten? Do anyone know the name of the kindergarten which have this kind of mixing class?

Hi Unix
As I observed last year, some activities were separated, e.g. K2 spend more time on Putonghua. Also my son told me the K2 students couldn't go out during studio time and had to stay in the classroom to do something this morning.

Dear parents,
I am also living in Tsing Yi and is thinking about ESF TY for my son's kindergarten schooling. Which primary school will ESF kinder students usually go to or apply for?
Sorry about my silly questions as I am quite new to this ESF system and schooling.
Thanks for all.

As far as I know, they will change the curriculum every year so that the K2 kids won't learn the same thing again. Also, K2 will do more like thinking and writing activities. K2 can also go out to play at studio time and they can help those K1 kids settle. But once every two weeks, the K2 will need to stay in the classroom during studio time for the Putonhua lesson. Hope this help!
