At the start, need to pay dentures or capital levy. Some schools require debentures which are refundable of a few hundred thousands when you leave, some you need to sell in open market. ESF is cheapest, only need to pay capital level of 30k to 40k which is depreciated over the years and non refundable.
For tuition, Reserve around $150k -200k (incl school fees, bus and lunch) more per year compared with local schools (eg private and DSS). Some schools' fees are lower like ESF, some higher like CIS or GSIS. They have annual trips every year (in Oct) starting secondary school, some are outside HK, additional 20k per trip. Some schools offer exchange programmes during summer or ski trips during Christmas (optional), additional 30-40k per trip
At secondary, like year 9 up, might need to attend some tuition (normal), additional 10k a month
Some kids go abroad to boarding schools in year 9 and some in year 12, some stay until year 13 before they enter uni
Uni application starts in year 12
Proportion of kids staying in HK for tertiary education is low
So you also need to estimate the cost of going abroad for uni, cost including living would be around $500k a year
If you add up from year one up till year 13, the cost would be around 2.6m to 3m (if you include debentures) subject to fees adjustment. But school fees would increase every year.
Then you add cost of tertiary education
The main difference between IS and LS is the debenture, monthly tuition and cost of studying abroad for tertiary education
