My kids have totally different abilities and characters and putting them in IS n LS separately doesn't bother me or them at all. I told them before that giving them exactly the same "things"is no way "fair". Giving them equal opportunities and choosing the best fit school is more important.
They are totally fine with the arrangement. I got queries from friends at times though. Another small downside is that family vacations are more difficult to plan.
My friend was in a different situation. Her kids were closer in age n they saw the differences between the homework load of IS and LS. Eventually both kids go to IS.
I think if you are financially ok to support both kids to attend IS in case one day the LS kid wishes and is capable to switch to IS, go ahead.
