My friend studied in a Chinese school till secondary 2.She holds American Passport and is transferred to a public school in the US last year for Grade 9.
However her family is moving to HK and wants to put her in international school in HK for Grade 10.

Her english is average (C) in US. She can handle classes and communication in English, and do very well in all other subjects in US(got mostly A for all other courses). She speaks mandarin. She wanna get in university in the US so we hope to go for the American system more.
I personally study local school and have little knowledge in IS, so I have a few questions and hope you guys could help answering, please~~~~

1). Which of the following schools should she apply? (That she has a higher chance to get in?)

- AIS (American International School)
- CAIS  (Christian Alliance P.C. Lau Memorial International School)
- ICS (International Christian School)
- YCIS (Yew Chung International School)
- Concordia International School
- KCIS (Kiangsu - Chekiang College)

Judging from the comments in other posts, seems the chance of getting in AIS, CAIS, ICS and YCIS is pretty similar. On the other hand, I haven't seen much discussion over Concordia and KCIS, are they easier to get in or do they achieve lower public exam results? (no offense)
Please kindly correct me if there is any misconceptions.

2). Does there any of the above schools require debenture? Debenture is always hard to understand for me, so I am just trying to avoid that.

3). Are there any medium tier IS you would recommend please?

Since the application is quite urgent, I would be super grateful if anyone could kindly help. THANKS A LOT!!!  TvT

報左收先講,現在應該係學校選你,不是你選學校。你估實有位?

I know it's hard to get in, but since my friend is studying in the US and she has to fly to HK for interview (if she is given one), so i wanna target like 3-4 and also see if there are any reasonable choices I have missed out.
Thank you!
言下之意是我應該向以上全部學校遞交申請?

Think different schools has different interview time.  So you better submit the application to a few schools and ask the tell the school about your situation and see if they could arrange a special or suitable timing that fits most of the school.

As she targets US Uni, it's better for her to apply ICS and AIS. Both school require debentures. ICS is more academic. Concordia is a small school and I have heard any comments about it.

Usually there are spots for upper grade as many students went for studying abroad. Don't give up!

回覆:admission to IS grade 10

仲有HKIS 都係美制,成績聽講也不錯,更正AIS冇債卷要求但每年有Levy, 升大學成績也相當不錯

It is probably not up to her to choose. She has to be willing to accept any school that is willing to offer her a place.
In any case, what is the parent's position? Are they willing to pay the premium of any international schools in Hong Kong, including debenture, levy, etc?
As far as I know, all international schools in Hong Kong, including ESF, have different kinds of "additional charges" for new students. Some call that debenture, levy, etc. The only way to get the exact details is to visit the school website. Since these charges change every now and then, "existing parents" like me would not know know the picture for new applicants.
As a start, you can make phone calls to these schools and ask them what you should do. I believe different schools have different application procedures for applicants that are already physically in Hong Kong and applicants that are still in another country.
As far as I know, American International School is very friendly and is willing to provide help to students from the US. May be you can call them up. This might be a good starting point.

Thanks for comments from all of you guys~ I get a better picture for the application now.
I have been applying to AIS, and really hope to get her in! (They have no special arrangements for overseas students though )
But I am definitely trying all the other schools I mentioned.

Debenture and levy are actually okay as long as they are not as difficult to get as those in Harrow. I heard about second hand markets and stuff. Looks like you can't buy it even if you have the money. That's why I didn't try ESF schools. (Sounds like they have a long queue)

BIG THANKS!
