揾一间收番甘多的band 1 龍校，去同宣小比，根本唔係完全可比。

Unless the boy aims at other top secondary schools such as Co-ed or QC, the pressure is less.  A Band 2 boy in SJPS still has great chance in getting a place in SJC.

我兒子也是從SFA插班入SJPS的，St Jo有悠久歷史，強大的在香港各行各業出名的校友群（已經證明晒學校嘅實力），最重要係直屬band 1A中學，同意之前有同一case的家長講，孩子讀書壓力反而輕了，因為我只要保住佢成績中游已經幾乎肯定上得返聖若瑟書院。我實在非常喜歡這間學校，我心目中只有DBS, 喇沙, Co-ed等可與聖Jo比較。

The number of Band 1 and 2 students at SJPS is around 120. Some students will go to IS, SPCC, or DBS if they want to take IB. Moveover, SJC will make offers to some very top SJPS students at Discretionary Stage to avoid "loss of talents" to other secondary schools. Hence, the 99 reserved place at Central Allocation should cover the majority of Band 2 SJPS students.

Around 11x SJPS were finally accepted by SJC last year, including those accepted at the knocking stage.

Agree.  
My son enjoys his school life whereas I am happy with the school.  My son declined to apply for other secondary schools as he insisted in promoting to SJC with his classmates. The boys have strong sense of belongings.

yes, have to agree that boy school has such stronger bonding among boys, and the place where lifetime long mates met.

yes, in terms of admission rate to those renown schools sj trumps.

but there are other elements that would form one s life.

I did ask. to be honest much more -ve comments on sjc than +ve ones I could have received.

you are right. you may have told the fact but we are talking about two diff perspective.  parents didnt want to risk bidding a sjc place by luck. they were told to fight for band one. no one knew the line divided banding groups, to allow a safety margin and taking acct of sj kids capabilities, 50-60th was the line the teachers told the parents.

my source even told me about his shivering hands when he received from the teachers a paper ball that wrapped the estimated banding of his boy. they were highly stressful to keep their boy in possibly band one albeit his boy was one of the top students.

there was a lot of talk from the forums about how unfortunate an academically better one of two band two boys was allocated to tkp while other one got into sjc.

I didn't mean a catholic boy school is a bad thing, just that they are different.

even a catholic school and a christian school (evangelical church) are different.

One man's meat is another man's poison. We all know that there is no "the best school" and we should try to find "the most appropriate school" for our kids instead.
Perhaps your friend has some bad experience with SJPS. Personally, I am very happy with the school and also my son's development here.

That's true. Every year there are some unlucky Band 2 SJPS students cannot be promoted to SJC. But it happens to all subsidized feeder schools, not just SJPS.
If you view it from another angle, many SJPS Band 2 boys can be promoted to SJC. This is not too bad.

For students of those top primary schools with no feeder schools like APS and SFA, you need to be at top 30% in order to get an offer from a Band 1A secondary school. I will say this is much more difficult and stressful than to keep Band 1 ranking in SJPS.
