Based on my personal experience, I rank the Big 3 in Engineering as follow:
HKU > CUHK = HKUST

Some updated info.

From Y1 to Y2, HKU each engineering program has a max 25% of the total intakes. Civil, Mechanical and Computing, 3 programs already 75%, balance for all other programs.


It's not healthy in resources and facilities allocation.

Common first year, can choose Civil in year 2, but the quota is 25% of the intakes.
He may not get in Civil ultimately.

甘就擔心啦，佢成績一般。講教anchan, 如果第二年入唔到civil ，多數會點, 謝謝

Most updated info -  Civil , Mechanical, Computing - 25%, 25%, ~25%.... of intakes.
Other programs share the balance 25% .....

Choose other programs as backup.

Some parents and teachers don't know Civil has quota, therefore HKU uses school base admission to attract students for Civil and you need to fight for a place in first year.

You can see mechanical is the second choice, computing is very close to 25%.

非常感謝您寶貴的資料，又識多啲，身邊都好多朋友仔女呢一兩年考dse, 可以比佢地參考。
其實我諗個學生自己應該好清楚，都開學兩個多月了，可能冇詳細同父母講，而父母末必甘了解，只同我地講佢女入左港大土木工程

That's the obvious problem of common first year and school base admission.

That's the reason why my son dropped HKUST and joined CUHK finally for QFin. No need to fight for one more year and at the end you can get in your favourite major.

你好,請問如果入讀Engineering , 畢業後，想再修讀建築系，因心儀建築系，預計入不到建築；怎麼樣讀完engineeing, 再讀建築，可名：
1）non JUPAS 再讀建築，要讀幾多年？
2）是否讀一年master 建築或
3）重新再讀4 年建築系degree;

請指教

我對建築系不熟悉，你可以問一下大學！

如果不一定要港大中大建築系，會否考慮城大。我識朋友兒子，入了城大AD建築，然後去英國讀建築系！

以HKU為例，JS6963　Bachelor of Engineering (工學學士)共有8個programme。

這8個programme在year 2會不會收其它糸的學生?

如你所講，8個programme在 year 2 是有其quota的，所以要入讀就要計成績，如成績不好，是否一定可以入到其中一個programme，只是入不到多人要的programme，如Civil Engineering，Computer Engineering?

如入城大建築，要問清楚條 path ，城大建築 BSc （Architectural studies ）是top up degree , 並不是由Jupas 入，應該是收Asso degree 的畢業生，而由Jupas 入的 BEng Architectural Engineering 畢業後入的是HKIE 工程師學會的Building Services Discipline ，並不是HKIA 建築師學會（HKIA 入會資格是要有Master of Architecture，香港只有港大和城大有開，我猜想城大這個Master 主要收城大BSc （Architectural Studies ）嘅畢業生 ）。
當然一般行外人未必分得清畢業後做個 Building Services Engineer 同做個 Architect 有乜分別。

另一個問題，為什麼CE沒有CS咁受歡迎，我不太肯定，但在過往幾年評審各大學工程學院時，為什麼工程學院學院制收生之後，M1/M2及物理不是必修科目，問題就是CS的要求較另類，所有其他工程學科收窄必修課標準遷就CS！如果不用以上科目都可以申請，可能會多些人申請。最近幾間大學已經不玩學院制收生，改為課程或學系制收生，減少錯配及讀唔上！當然不是單純針對CS而改。

CE是工程，工程在香港不是吃香科目，因此沒有CS咁受歡迎。如果選工程，電機及電子可能都有軟件方面科目。

以上是我個人觀察，希望有其他業內人士補充。
