No need if you target local university.
Do not waste time.
If your DSE English does not meet university requirements, IELTS will not help you in any way.
IELTS is a must if you want to go to the UK or Canada.
IELTS is only valid for 2 years.
If you son want to take IELTS, best time is second term of Form 5.

各大學都有在網頁寫，ielts最低要求

你最後一點欲言又止，但事實上在本地大學所有畢業生，教資會會資助一次lELTS考試費，而非只是法律系學生，該系學生的平均成績是全港之冠！

聽說可能會取消！

資助原因是多年前，本地僱主投訴本地大學英文水平下降，於是教資會資助本地大學畢業考 IELTS ，用一把尺去量香港畢業生畢業時的英文水平。

如果海外回來的本港學生，及在本地就讀的海外學生不會獲得資助。而且他們多數在海外申請時，可能已經要求有英文最低入學要求。

大學畢業生畢業後才考 IELTS 是幾特別，不知道有多少國家地區同樣施行！？

IELTS is an ESL exam.
It is used to gauge whether a student is able to learn in english.
Means more for students from non english speaking countries, e.g. Taiwan and Japan.

I do not think students from the UK or US would need to proof their ability in using english to learn.
If you still are unsure, ask the admission officers.
