I did not intend to defend SJC. I was trying to respond in a lesser superficial way than to direct the readers of this forum to the simplistic understanding of language.

In my own understanding, and in the majority of English speaking world, there is nothing as 'correct' accent. Watch Pearl's documentary at 8pm( most of these were bought from BBC) and then the film at 9:30( most are from Hollywood) and you would agree to me. I guess you are referring to an accent that is mostly 'welcomed' by HK parents on certain criterion( of which I may never understand).

If this is what you are searching for, then checking the number of whites in a school may not meet your actual need, as a white from England has accent highly deviated from another white from Scotland, though both are from British Islands. Similarly, a teacher from East coast can have accent quite different from one of West coast.

fr338, I agree with your opinion that "white" doesn't necessarily mean good accent!  I have no doubt in this point.  So it really depends on the teachers' accent, not nationality!  But as halfower said ppl would have more confidence if they saw "white" as teachers!  Maybe the best way apart from this superficial observation is to chat with the teachers to listen to their accent.  

I raised this query just based on my observation during interview.  And to be honest, I find that most NETs from India/ South America are more caring.  But at least when parents choose school, they should know what the school can provide.

BTW, fr338, can you share more on this school like the curriculum (I heard that it's quite difficult) and whether the teachers are caring and sufficiency in communication with parents.

Agree that accent can't be or difficult to change when one grows up!  Therefore, it's better to have a good start.  My elder kid was studying in a bilingual PN class before (with NET as class-teacher) and his accent is really good!  The NET is "white" but it doesn't mean all "white" has good accent, of course!

Hello smile_w99,
SJC's curriculum in general advances other kindergarten by a year. For younger B the biggest challenge is writing of Chinese words( 上,木,天,土 etc.). Otherwise K1 is not tough at all. The advancement in learning of vocab and phonics may promote the children to start reading earlier, which may not be a bad thing.

SJC teachers are general responsive. I do not always called the school, but if I called, the class teacher usually responded to me the same day or next day morning, and we could talk for as long as 20 minutes about my child without feeling her pushing to hang up. I do not know other schools, but I am satisfied with this. This is a huge difference in comparing to the unhappy PN experience of which my son was in another school with comparatively abundant resources( 2 class teachers; one PTH, one "white" NTE, and one local assistance). During PN, I called the NTE several times, and even wrote in the handbook urging for communication. Never did I get response. The NTE has favorable accent of certain western country though :)  To be fair, I heard local white NTEs can be good. Expats quality varies by large extent , unfortunately.

fr338, thx a lot for your useful info!  Although we're still waiting for SJC's result and I think since mine is "small b", chance may be slim, esp. the application date has closed earlier due to "over-application"!

You are welcome. It was not particularly hard to get a seat two years ago in SJC even for small B, although the more famous schools such as St. Cat and Kentville already drew lines to stop babies born beyond September from interviewing. In any case, take it easy and wish u good luck !

我好同意這家長的意見。我女女由PN開始讀SJC,現在K1。如果我打比class teacher佢一定即日覆，又有耐性。女女讀全日班，自理能力進步不少。自己擦牙、食飯丶著鞋、去廁所（當然不是好perfect,條褲會咩左等等）,好多時想幫佢佢會話我自己。學術方面佢回家成日唱歌包括普通話及英文，又會同我講full eng sentence例如i want to eat xxxxx。我問why之後佢識講because xxxx當然有文法上錯誤但我明佢想表達乜。中文認識左好多字,普通話進步很快因為每日也有PTH課。學校也會幫小孩參加PTH比賽，成績還不錯，可參考學校網頁。各科老師好有愛心,無論德育及學術都兼顧到。好幸運女女可以入到因為她是細B。好欣賞這所學校在現今需求下仍收不少細B。

can you please share the school fees and other misc fees for PN? My son is on waiting list only, but another school has accepted him,  if the school fees are similar , i really want to write a letter to the SJC  and try my luck! in fact , I like SJC but not sure I can afford : (

The school fee for PN is $5250 x 11 months while misc fee for 1 year is $1500.
