我女兒下一年才year one, 選了非through train 的IS 小學。想先了解一下ESF secondary 的收生程序，評估一下競爭有多大。其實其他IS 的中學我也會考慮，主要考慮IB, IGCSE 為主，學費比較平宜的，debentures 或capital levy 也不想太重負擔太重。新界東為主，local passport

我明白，當然esf primary 優先。我指那些僅餘的位，是所有applicants 也有assessment ? 或是又玩random number? 係selective or non selective 呢？

其實不用等到中學才轉；一路讀IS, 一路申請就是。

我有打去quarry bay esf office 問，admission officer 說用random number決定有冇assessment 的機會，也說是non selective , 和小學admission 分別不大。但我睇其他post , 好少聽到話報左名冇得in, 但又聽到名校也未必pass 之類，所以想知道實際上係如何運作。

運氣，我控制唔到。

同number無關啦，如果仍心儀ESF, 就睇priority，或買NR；反正大部分有中小學的IS, 其實學費連levy/debentures 都差不多。

ESF按照priority次序, 有vacancy就call人做assessment 及面試，有人pass 有人fail; 如此這般可以叫做non selective嗎？

同一priority ，就跟number , 係esf primary admission policy , 暫沒打算買NR, 因爲仲有六年，也覺得已選定的小學，很不錯

Year 7時, game rules一樣喎。有NR的applicants 仍會排先；除非你有弟妹跟尾，不少高年班的插班生，其實靠siblings。

我假設central application for year 7 of Shatin college 係非常多人。根據以上描述，假設有priority 人士被SC 收了，之後假設有五個位，SC 跟random number ，call 了10人考試，assume 7個pass, 最好random number 五個有offer, 另2人 waiting. 呢兩個waiting 好可能到year 8 才有位。咁year 8 繼續有SC 學生出國，那麼學校會再call year 7 已經開始排的，去考試。

問題：點解ESF website indicated Shatin college 2018 學年，year 8 以上仲有位？應該year 7 central admission 那時開始，各form 也有一條long wait list . 是入學試難？或我誤會了？

走的人多過申請，你可以看學校有冇寫。我記得富年我留意到未搬的island 每年有10%turnover .後來校長在開學禮也有説10%。
不過，你還要考慮一個問題。我們小朋友的出生率是比200x多一倍的，到時的境況同今天不同。

Grade 8或以上還想轉校嗎？中學生插班不易打入圈子，而且剛適應又要考公開試了。

今年超過400人報名Year 7 central admission ，及後來超過300人決定考entrance exams，約120 Year 7 學位

Grade 8 =中一。香港大部分小朋友都會轉校。

So, does it mean all applicants can get a chance of assessment? Those 100 applicants decided not to take assessment, not they were not offered a chance, right?

So, how they came up with offer list ? Rank by assessment result or random number ?

I cannot speak for all those who decided not to take the assessments, but some of them do not want to join ESF schools of not their residential zones . For example, many students living in the Hong Kong east want to get into South Island School , but they were only offered to apply for Island School which is in Shatin . So, they decided not to take the entrance assessments

早d計劃係好事，亦要睇埋6,7年後ESF在讀生(宜家K2)升中計劃，近年開嘅新校6,7年後應該有更多trace record参考，到時中學的選擇應該俾宜家更多。宜家計新界區ICHK中學應該也不錯。

我反而覺得而家咁多新IS/PIS, 到時讀得個班自然會揾間有成績的中學轉，仲有一班local school又想轉，到時成績好有Track record 的中學可能比而家更大競爭，始終中學的要求唔同小學幼稚園，中學未必咁想試新校。

Strictly speaking, 2017 result 幾好，average 35.1, 35+ 57.6%, 40+ 19.2%

係有聯繫學校，如果當時沒有其他更好offer , 也應該大機會可以去到聯繫學校

也會考慮RC , RC 的admission 應該和ESF 有分別的

My friend was informed by RC admission last week, from next year onwards. A student can only choose one ESF school , this is what they did for primary now! They ask my friend to hurry her application for coming 18/19 otherwise she can only apply 1 ESF !!!

Even for secondary school admission ?

The primary school one form admission aims at reducing admin workload. But for the secondary school admission, I doubt how one form will work.

I have my elder kid in upper form and my younger one coming to join Y7 in ESF. Both from the same international primary school not linked with any secondary. My observation:

1) kids from international primary schools should have no problem passing the written test and the interview. However kids from local “good” schools might not pass because their training r different. While my kid ranked the English paper “easy”, friend from local school even could not have enough time to finish it

2) yes, there’s still a random number for Y7 central application. A few years ago when my elder one and those classmates applied ESF, I remembered all of them got the assessment. This year my younger one and classmates r born in 金豬年，some classmates didn’t get assessment notification. Parents phoned ESF, they were told that’s because too many applicants and their random number r not favorable

3) non-selective maybe true - one classmate of my elder one is weak academically (as told by my kid), however still got a ESF place. I bumped into him recently, he is enjoying school life, maybe because ESF put students into different groups according to ability

4) when come to choosing Y7, kids have their own idea. My younger one’s classmates may have 10 applied for ESF, all got pass, however finally only 5 took the offer because the other 5 would like to join another secondary school

Your information is so valuable to me. The picture is very clear now, and match with what the Esf admission manager said.

放棄龍IS, 有現在的選擇，對自己小朋友是有信心的。以secondary school admission 來説，實力加運氣同樣重要。
