July 6, 2013 is finally here!  Would like to start this thread so that there is one consolidated thread for all IB results reporting.  Good luck to all the students!

This should be a complete list as I don't believe Discovery College, GSIS, International College HK has a graduating class.

Not sure what you are referring to.  Do you mean are the scores comparable?  I think yes and no.  As you points out, selective admission, partial or full class doing IB are all factors that will impact the results.  But I also want to have this thread so that the information are in one place and it will be easier to refer back to it.

Agree!

It will be much more appropriate if we compare the result of DBS (or even SPCC??)  with schools like LPCUWC whose IB students are also carefully chosen.

Anyway, DBS has really done a good job this year. I just wonder what will happen to the DSE results of those local elite schools if their best students (or most suitable students) have shifted to the IB curriculum???

South Island School
Principal’s Blog
8 July 2013

As ever, it has been a big weekend for IB students, Saturday night marking the culmination of 2 years’ hard work with the release of the May 2013 session results. For the vast majority of our 141 IB candidates, the evening was, once more, one of celebration. The full results analysis will be published, according to ESF Policy, on our website later today but, in short, this has been another successful year for South Island students with 14% of the cohort securing 40+ points and 2 students gaining the maximum 45 points. It is particularly pleasing to see 47% of our students gaining 35 points or over. This really is a great achievement, with results equating to our second highest since implementing the IB Diploma Programme and we are all delighted for our students and their families. The majority of students have secured their first or insurance University place, several at highly prestigious institutions, among them Oxford, Imperial, UCL, as well as several US “ivy league” universities. Our HE Counsellors have been working hard over the weekend and will continue today to help those in need of help in this area. Congratulations to all concerned and the very best of luck to our graduating students as they embark on the next stage of their lives.

IB Examination Results

The Hong Kong Chinese Christian Churches Union Logos Academy (“Logos Academy”) provides an eleven-year “through-train” primary and secondary education. We are very proud of our IB graduates who have been striving to become inquiring, knowledgeable and caring people. They have been also aiming at creating a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. During their eleven years at Logos Academy, they have been pursuing their life goals built on truth, benevolence and beauty. Their growth is as well observed in the spiritual, moral, cognitive, aesthetic, physical and social aspects.

With concerted efforts of all Logosians, our first cohort of IB students has sat the May 2013 examination with encouraging results. The following table illustrates the overall performance of our fifteen IB graduates:

May 2013 IB Examination Result (First Cohort of IB Students)

        IB graduates
from Logos Academy        Worldwide
(May 2012)
40 points or above        40.0%        6.6%
35 points or above        93.3%        23.9%
30 points or above        93.3%        51.7%
24 points or above        100%        84.2%
Passing Rate        100%        78.5%
Bilingual Diploma        100%        31.3%
Mean Score        38.3        29.8

After the EVELEN-YEAR STUDY at Logos Academy, our IB graduates have an average age of only 16.8 – more than a year younger than most normal IB graduates. Despite their young age, they have received highly regarded offers from various local and overseas universities. Four of them will be university students before their seventeenth birthday.

Congratulations to all our IB graduates and we hope every one of them will continue to develop their potential and contribute to the well-being of mankind in the future.

West Island School

This is our fifth year cohort of IB diploma students. The overall results for West Island are once again outstanding both against previous school results and also against world averages.
The results indicate a steady upward trend from our first year of introduction of the IB diploma in 2009. In 2009 we entered 119 students compared to 128 in 2013. The comparison of overall results for 2012 and 2013 provides further evidence of a steady confidence in the delivery of the IB Diploma programme. The majority of our students are above 30 points for the IB diploma (a pass is 24); over half being 35 points and above and 18% being 40 and above; all well above world IB averages.
This year I am delighted to report that 2 students to date have achieved a 45 points total which puts them in the top few % of students worldwide.

They need to sit for IELTS and TOFEL as to fulfill language requirement first, then all depends on university assessment and program's language requirement.
Ironically, they play around technicality, like CUHK will favour bilingual diploma holder even the student only has English B.

Thanks all for your information. For local parents without many resources (like can only afford a few thousand dollars per month only) but want to take the IB route, local schools such as Logos look like good choices. We may choose Eng A if the school can provide but Chi B instead. I want to know the results of similar schools like Creative and Choi Kai Yau. Are they released yet? But if my kid is not too good at Eng literature, choosing CUHK while studying Eng B can do.

I share with your view.

But when I checked with the local universities (pls refer to the thread quoted by poonseelai above), even for law faculty, most of them do not see the differences in English A and English B.

If we play the tactics to take English B in order to attain higher scores, it may be risky at the final day when the programme director is aware of the differences.

I did raise this concern to other Logos parents, but it was not accepted by them apparently.
With this year's good results, I think it is more difficult for the school to change this policy.
To my understanding, the school is more concern on the number of students getting into a degree programme than the types of courses and universities that the students are pursuing.

To clarify, I'm not a Logos parent. I'm just curious how they train up their students to achieve such results in the first batch and the students and the students are one year younger than others. Can any Logos parent share here?

For local parents with limited resources, I think most of them will target local universities. If parents can share the university destinations of their children, we can know the effect of the language choices.

選科真係一種学問、如果係香港用CHIーA&ENG-B都OK的話、都係一個好選択。 不過楼上有人講、連港大法律系的都5知ENG-A&B的分別、就有点難以致信。

Actually, long time ago we did not take Eng literature or Chi literature when we took HKAL and still got into HKU law programme, right? We only took AS Eng language and AS Chi language plus three other AL subjects.

Agree.  No need to judge.  Some people study for high scores and some people study to learn.  As long as one can 對自己有交代, that is good enough.

True. I want my kids to learn instead of obtaining high scores only, so I still prefer international schools. But the fact is that the top few schools this year are local schools.

Local schools select their students for IB. I think we can see a better picture after DSE results come up.

I don't know about HKU Law School, for Medic is like this, min English requirement for A HL - 4, SL - 5; for B, HL -7.
I guess Law School should know the difference.

RC 2013 result is 33.2, with 10.9% pass the 40 points, still a little bit lower than the average of ESF

Not sure how it works but I always thought the best Singaporean students get streamed into ACS or Raffles.  Maybe someone from Singapore would know the details.

I am really curious about the 1st cohart result of CKY as I heard a top student from one of the ISs we discussed here applied to transfer to CKY this June but got rejected.  It seems like they have a very high hurdle to get in.

CIS usually announces the school IB result weeks after the students obtained the IB results.

I dont understand why West IS and South IS are not grouped under ESF (I am referring to your chart)?

They are included in the ESF.  The ESF is for all schools under the ESF group and individual school results are reflected as well when they are available.

which means the total number of students are still 831 and not 831 + WEST IS + SIS?

I know their first GCSE result was good but not top notch. I am not betting on them being right at the top for IB.

BB144, I am not familiar with Logos.  Do you know if  the small number of students is because they have a small class or are the best students selected to take the IB exam?

To my understanding, since it is the first batch of IB students, parents with not much confidence have chosen DSE instead of IB for their kids. School had also set some thresholds in selecting their IB students.

At the first year, it had been more than 20 students. But after one year, some of them (most are good learners) move overseas, leaving only 15 to take the exam. If those students have stayed, the average score would probably be even higher, >39!?

The whole batch is 15. But for some particular subjects, there are only one or two students. So, the teacher-to-students ratio is very high indeed.
