Which one is better in terms of academic and discipline, as well as ranking?
作者: eggmama    時間: 12-8-8 14:02

As schedule for primary students are tight, I will choose NOT to across Victoria harbour.
作者: Greatmother    時間: 12-8-8 14:36

Eggmama,
Which one you will choose then?
作者: eggmama    時間: 12-8-8 21:53

If luckily get both offers, I will choose St Mary as I only take 20mins to school
作者: chocoberry78    時間: 12-8-9 01:13

St Mary's is a very good school~~their english standard is really high as they need to speak english at school even at recess.
their average CE english result is A-B.....
作者: Greatmother    時間: 12-8-9 23:11

I heard St Mary's is too focus into academic and not too active in others.  SPC girls are more outgoing and relax as well as having gusts to questions and presentation well.  Any other comments?
作者: newbkmember    時間: 12-8-10 01:57

Both are good schools. Your choice should be based upon your girl's character and your preference on what kind of study environment for your girl.

St. Mary - Through tranined school, academic centric, high pressure, girls are less active, free of charge
St. Paul Convent - 99% through tranined school, all rounded, less pressure, girls are more active and presentable, have to pay school fee

I think English standard should be more or less the same for both schools. It should be a happy problem if both are accepted.  If no financial concern, I would pick St. Paul Convent as it matches my expection on study enivironment.

Hope this helps.

All I know is St. Mary's is not truely an EMI school.. while SPC is an EMI school.  My concern is the Chinese standard in St. Mary's is higher than SPC.

thank you samuellor!

Got your message on SPC.  Can see St. Mary's just focus more on academic than any other things.  Personally, I like the well rounded education than just academic focus school.  Just do not understand.. why others think SPC is not good..
作者: VincentL    時間: 12-8-12 19:57

I think English standard is higher for SPC, while Chinese and academic standard is higher for St Mary.

this is an interesting benchmark, because supposingly every schools send their best students to participate the competition, and the selection criteria is not purely on academic side, but also includes interviews and group discussions with the panel. If  you total up the no. Of winners by school,  is the 1st runner up .

Agreed the two schools may be in different style, but I believe they are in the same ranking academically.

Thanks VincentL to show us the best student ranking website!!!

By looking at those historic winning students, I can sure that SPC and St. Mary's are consistently achieved in HK Outstanding Student awards in their past record years.

As for me, I guess I still tilt to SPC more than St. Mary's as SPC is more creative, flexible, active, outspoken and presentable.  They are not rigid to only academic.  I guess this is the most important to select a school when they do not have lot of homework but good in readings.

Yes , in that case, SPC, is more suitable for your  daughter

I was a graduate from St. Mary's and my daughter in SPK. They are both very top schools in HK. However, I can tell the two schools are at two poles.
St. Mary's focus on academic, especially language studies (for exam purpose). Teachers are pushy. ECA prefers music than everything. Happy to receive awards for school. Strict discipline as I was punished for wear stylish socks or 3rd ear rings in my years...
SPC focus on all-rounded training, happy learning. The international students in the school allow better language training especially English oral. They don't really push students to get awards to school but would encourage students to "try". More freedom, but the good result has to depend 90% on the students' self initiative...that's why they teach this since kindergarten years.

Gwengwen,  How would you grade SPC?  You seem to like SPC more than St. Mary's in some aspects.  How's your girl getting on in SPK?  Is that mean you definitely not opting for St. Mary's for your girl as you might have higher points as you were from St. Mary's?

Gwengwen,  How would you grade SPC?  You seem to like SPC more than St. Mary's in some aspects.  How ...

Hi Greatmother, I think SPC is a good school, students are free and leisure but with good academic performance. But if you want school support for ECA or competitions, it would be not be easy. That's only my impression coz' my girl is still in kinder. And SPC is a private school so the school has more freedom to design her own teaching program.
My girl just applied and got accepted, no relationship no religion. I've got SC offer that time so just made it a try after my friend told me SPK has Primary & Secondary back-up. I thought no hope to get a seat after the interview since it was so quickly done, and she was not speaking good Cantonese at that time
I won't say 100% not opting for SMCC. SMCC is a good school but I experienced the "bookworm" years...I want my girl to be more multi-talented and have more exposure to other things than solely acadmic. Also, we are not Catholic, so only 20 points, not really that competitive in 1st round.

Greatmother,
I totally agree with gwengwen on SPC. My daughter also study at SPK now. They are very relax and teaching them to self learning and independent even in kindergarten time.  The kinder training is simple and good.  Easy for them to pick up to get use to their primary school requirement and daily needs.

Thanks Gwengwen and Monghar for your SPC sharing!!

I have more confident on SPC now.
