If my daughter is accepted, and we were planning to go to GH, but the lottery is announced on June 6, IF we are lucky enough to get Maryknoll, which would be the better school ?

Definitely MCS.

Both are the good school but you can save the school fee to a great extent.

昨天聽見GH家長說，GH中學會收返晒小學部的學生，(我諗都要考試及格嘅)，但 Maryknoll 因只是直屬關係，所以會收唔晒，通常只收到60%，係咪真呢？

Maryknoll會好一些。

到真的升不到中學，至讀德望都未遲。再者，說不定到你個女將來又有個女（或你又多個細女），咁咪多個機會入Maryknoll！（雖然說不定在幾十年後香港的小學入學會否變，或Maryknoll會否仍是津校。）

Maybe late if you want to enter to the Good Hope School (Secondary section) unless your kid has special talent in particular sports and achievement. Otherwise, it is not easy to get a place from it. If your kid can get a place from GHS, I am sure that your kid can get a place from MCS.

真的嗎？中學部我就不太清楚，不過，我之前聽有個媽咪說：幾年前，她的女兒考上另一間名校，德望call家長希望他們女兒不要離開，咁聽落又似乎不難入。

通常只有說德望的學生想考入MCS，就真的未聽聞MCS的學生希望考入德望喎！咁是否個priority便該是 MCS > GHS !

You are absolutely right. If my daughter is very outstanding in academic or all round achievements, I will also want to get into the MCS because it is a government subsidized school that it can save the parents spending on the school fee (GHS

3010, may increase to $4000 something in this year) even though their academic requirement are quite similar. Besides, MCS is one of dream school by parents in Hong Kong.

Both are good schools.
MCS - good and free (no need to pay school fee)
GHS - good but have to pay $3xxx/month

This is also one of the reason why people prefer MCS more than GHS.

MCS, of course! 從來只有GH想轉去MCS的. 單論地點MCS比GH好多了

不過升中只收80%小學學生 (我兩個表妹還在MCS讀, 消息應該可靠) 收唔返的學生會升去國際學校or其他band1的天主教女校

印象中MCS的學生比較GH的bright同埋比較有儀態 (大家都smart的, 但就係有dd分別lor)

Absolutely right.
But, if GHS is not a private school, I think that there is much less transfer from GHS to others.

Maryknoll belongs to net 41. (Kowloon City+Kowloon Tong)
No Kindergarten
Kids can get in by lucky draw in P1 no matter which KG and family background they come from.

In first round, if the kid's parent was old girl (5 marks)+religion (5 marks)+1st child (15 marks)= 25 marks - sure can get in.
Kids at least have 20 marks to play the 1st round game.

If failed in the 1st round and your address is net 41, you can try your luck again in 2nd round.

Failed again, try to knock school door but the chance is really.............slim.

Some people will apply in P2 because it may have a few seats. This time, school will choose the candidates and must enter the school exam to decide who can get the seat.

I don't think anyone ever managed to get in with 15 points from the 1st round.
However, you have the same chance as everyone else in the lottery in the 2nd round, in which points are irrelevant.

In the old days 'Yes'. Now, it's by point (1st round) and luck (2nd round).

I was a Maryknoll graduate, and frankly speaking, during primary school, Maryknoll is more relax than GoodHope, while in secondary school, Goodhope is all rounded in sports, music and academics. Goodhopers have alot of outstanding acheivement among those band 1 girls' school, while Maryknoll is not as outstanding as Goodhope in those inter-school results. So, it depends on whether you want your daughter to be brought up in a school with outstanding performance in overall aspect or not. But Maryknoll is government school, so the tuition fee is not costly, and possess a very beautiful campus!

For 2009 P.1, I know at least 2 girls got 20 marks (with regilous marks) and enter on the 1st round.
I guess they have more classes than the other school.
